I could never understand how DJ Khaled has as big a career as he does; he can't sing, rap, or dance, and doesn't even write (or sometimes even produce!) the songs released under his name. He's not conventionally attractive, and the meme value of his early-Snapchat-era "🔑" thing is long gone. But then, talking to multiple folks in the industry, literally *everyone* said how much they love working with Khaled. Like, effusively positive about him. I suppose that is a major key lesson!
@anildash Skillset - makes everyone else around better.
@anildash he can definitely shout, I guess?

@anildash You haven't lived until you've seen his cringey performance at the #Overwatch League championships a couple of years ago.

He just sort of bopped around the stage, didn't rap, occasionally held the mic out, yelled "Another one!" (his catchphrase).

By the end, you can hear the audience laughing. And not because they were having fun.

@anildash I heard @neilhimself say once, success depends on 1) being good at what you do, 2) delivering on time, and 3) being easy to work with. Have two out of the three, and you’ll do fine. I wish I’d realized the value of “be easy to work with” sooner.

@anildash "Let's go golfing!!!"

Honestly, I love to hate him. But he's clearly a good connector of people. Seems the sort of person you go for dinner with and come away with ideas and a belief you can achieve them.

DJ Khaled Said He Expects Oral Sex But Won't Return The Favor Because There Are "Different Rules For Men"

"There are some things that you guys might not wanna do or wanna do. It gotta get done. I just can't do what you want me to do," DJ Khaled said in a resurfaced interview.

@anildash @pretz “Won’t go down” is the first thing that I think when someone says “DJ Khaled”
@karenmcgrane @anildash @pretz Same. But to be fair that’s the kind of attitude you want in a professional collaborator.
@anildash I'll take it one further. I don't understand how DJ is a thing beyond weddings and Bar/Bat Mitzvas. That's my taste I guess.
@anildash When I was about 20, a veteran jazz player I was studying with asked our class, "What is the most important factor in success in the music business?" Of course we said talent, skill, drive, etc. His answer, "Being a person other musicians want to hang out with." Major life lesson.

@anildash Love the duet he did with Billie Eilish - juts beautiful ❤️

@drrjv Khalid is great, but he’s a wonderful R&B singer, not DJ Khaled.
@anildash lots of people definitely DO NOT like working with him. He’s known for agreeing to every possible business opportunity, then basically turning off the phone the once the “now it’s time to grind” phase starts.
@messick I can see that being true also!

@anildash

I don't think it's necessarily a good one? Strong Elon Musk/Thomas Edison vibes.

Like Sean Puffy P Diddy combs, aka the person who harmed hip-hop more than literally any other

@anildash now figure out French Montana!
