@redler you can download all your old posts and you can even delete them if you want after you download them, but you can't reimport them. I mean, I guess that would theoretically be possible but I don't want to think about either the database import or the redirect/DNS rules required for that.

@dhfir @atomicpoet @vmstan ahh, user load makes sense but shutting down signups, I get it but I also really, really don't if you don't have the infra to deal with it all.

The Mastodon instance I’ve been using, mastodon.technology, is shutting down in a few months, so I’ve migrated my Mastodon account to a new server. I wanted to share the steps I went through in case the details are helpful to anyone, especially others migrating off that instance–especially a warning about when you lose access to your old account. I don’t know if these are the best steps to follow, but they worked for me.
