How it started, etc.

I'm not entirely happy with the edges - some touching up may be in order.

But even so, it looks so much better now.

A sign of the times

There is an old road sign on Belmont Road, Abergavenny. Old, and rusty, and not even that easy to read. It was worse, it was covered in ivy,...

The nails were letting it down, so a touch of black paint on them too.
@revk fabulous... a job well done 👍
@revk that looks excellent... Being a little picky, the original looks like the sides of the letters were black, but it looks like that's not the case on the new. Or is that just my eyes?
@Geoff correct, see my blog as to why.
Ha, I got a gold star.
@revk Great job, brings back memories as I went to school and worked on a Belmont Rd.
@revk
Excellent. A sign of the times as it were.
@revk incoming letter from the council in 3…2…
@Stubbs I got permission from the council 🙂
@revk I reckon they’ll be very pleased with the results in that case. It’ll be a letter asking you to do the rest 🤣
@revk Oo, really nice job. I've been looking forward to seeing the finished results all week 😀
@revk Easiest OSINT challenge ever!
@barsteward oh I tried when we moved and got as far as companies house refusing to remove a record that they accepted had even been filed in error. I’ve pretty much given up now.
@revk that is what i call dedication! hopefully nobody who still has a rusty old sign will complain to the council that they have 'prioritised' belmont road over their own street
@boliston that would be funny.
@revk people love a really good moan especially if they think it has anything to do with the council
@revk That looks great! How much effort was it to get approval from the council? The sign at the end of our road is not as bad (or as nice) but would benefit from repainting.
@bencc I emailed them and they were more than happy to let me sort it. They were slow to reply but no hassle. They said the alternative was they put in a modern road sign on posts.
@revk Great, thanks - I might email ours and see what they say then. Will wait for summer though if I do it!
@bencc yeh, heating the bat cave to a temperature to allow paint to dry was not cheap!
@revk not only looks better, but actually legible from a distance, as it should be.

@revk FYI, when you do your next one, if you can find a big enough pot and fire, you can convert red iron oxide into black iron oxide by boiling in distilled water. It requires more equipment, but it avoids the acid spray. Maybe you can repurpose the hot tub...

(They do this to de-rust firearms)
