I'm probably the blame for Ivory being a 31MB download. Those onboarding elephant images have 32-bit alpha transparent backgrounds and are not small in dimensions (though Paul compressed them surprisingly well). All the 1024x1024 alternate app icons, and if you go to the β€œAbout Tapbots" section, there's an animation that plays and it has a light and dark mode. πŸ˜…
@mark no probably about it.
@paul @mark Still firmly among the smallest apps on my phone.
@paul @mark I would pay to have more animations like About Tapbots in the app
@paul @mark I’ll take a bunch of high-resolution elephants over the usual array of multi-megabyte ad attribution SDKs any day of the week.
@paul @mark Just one question: Hoelw did you calculate the exchange rates? Is it automatically done by Apple?
@the_alsatian Yea it's all Apple.
@mark Thanks, they have some weird exchange rates currently πŸ˜…
@mark the official twitter app is 230 MB and I don’t think it’s because of nice visuals.
@mark Loving the app so far!!!!
@mark @paul Looking forward to the 25 minute 8K video tutorial.. available in 16 different languages .. embedded in the next update.
@mark I think you should add a few more icons, so it's exactly 32 MB in size.
@mark The elephants and icons are worth every single extra byte.

@mark πŸ˜‚

…I think icons for a Mastodon app are allowed to be… large… πŸ˜‰πŸ˜…

@mark the about tapbots animation is awesome
@mark It’s worth it’s weight in data.
pngquant β€” lossy PNG compressor

@mark I think there should be a "random appicon" function so that you can use all the wonderful icons.
@TuringOracle If only iOS was good at updating icons. Not uncommon to require a reboot for them to take effect. ☹️

@mark Just saw the animation! So worth it, it’s beautiful. I’m sure things are pretty busy with the launch (congrats by the way!) but I’d love to see some of the behind the scenes for how you created these 3D animations (in C4D I imagine?)

I might try to recreate it myself to practice πŸ˜„

@kevin yea animating in c4d is surprisingly easy. So not sure there’s anything worth showing there. πŸ™‚
@mark is there a hidden mini game somewhere?
@breadandwater no. Would be fun if we think of something someday.
@mark But probably less than that @jamesthomson guy’s apps with full on video games hidden under blank pixel or something. πŸ˜‰
@cdevroe @mark Hey, at least I moved them to a separate app πŸ™‚
@jamesthomson Haha! I just recently finished watching your presentation on the history of easter eggs. Excellent presentation.
@cdevroe Thanks, I’m glad you liked it!
@mark the anout screen graphic is worth the bandwidth πŸ‘πŸΌ
@mark left a review on the App Store. Everyone leave a review on the App Store!!
@mark 😊 No complaints here Mark. I love Ivory. πŸ˜πŸ’•
@mark that about screen in dark mode is πŸ”₯
@mark I love the animation!! 100% worth it
@mark the attention to detail for both light and dark modes is commendable. There’s whimsy everywhere. Just one of the many reasons I love this app. ☺️

@mark add more. πŸ₯³

It would probably loose a bit of the ray tracing goodness but USDZ models might be lighter in kb than video/animation files?

Could then allow users to pan for themselves themselves or auto play a slow rotation and make it interruptible.

@paul can then enjoy debugging SceneKit 🫠

@garyj_co i need to get better at creating low poly 3d artwork and learn how to create uv textures from the high res versions. I’d love to get actual 3d into the app. πŸ™‚
@mark There are tons of apps that take more space and aren’t nearly as good. 31MB is perfectly fine.
@mark its 2023…give yourself a size budget of 310 MB. apple already made everyone buy 256GB or larger iphones πŸ˜‚
@mark I was hoping the truck would drive around the block at some point.
@mark Could it be that the About screen factory is producing Weightbots? It’s very small, but I think I can see the small screen and the weight input.
@mark how could you! Btw my β€œDocuments & Data” for Ivory is creeping toward 600MB, so I think you’re okay 😊
@mark just checked this out, that’s really cool, love that details in gfx!
@mark Ooh that animation is coool, but the "two humans" makes me wonder how Todd fits in?
@numist We will update it all soon. πŸ™‚
@mark the animation is awesome. Oh, and the app too.
@mark What are you using to create your artwork?
@stephencollins I use Sketch for all of the icons and interface UI. And Cinema 4D for all of the 3D stuff. πŸ™‚
