TWITTER USERS LOOKING TO MIGRATE: The Mastodon app is a bit rubbish. That's a barrier for me.
TWITTER: Don't worry! We'll screw over our own 3rd party devs, so they jump ship and build better ones!
@garius The reverse chronological newsfeed was the deal breaker for me. Already the reason I do less FB and Insta these days. I'm now checking mastodon first. This is how it starts...
@garius Yes! Last week there was a lot of mid-wit pontificating that shutting out 3rd party devs was actually smart business sense, as they aren’t contributing to the bottom line, but that ignores this crucial point: you’ve got a group of developers who aren't really affecting your bottom line very much and are arguably improving your social graph, who are now totally committed to improving your competitor’s product! That doesn't seem strategically great!

@donmacdonald @garius

Aye. 3party apps still count towards traffic numbers that can be used to lie to advertisers about 'reach'

I will never understand why right-wing people have such an obsession with rich bellends that fail their way through running businesses

@garius I've basically stopped using Twitter since my preferred app was forcibly discontinued; I dislike the first party Twitter app that strongly.
@squigley @garius this is my exact journey too. 3rd party Twitter app cut off and I've not been back normally since. I now use Twitter like I use Facebook: I have an account in case I need it.
@garius using @ivory early days, but I don’t think I’ll be going back to Twitter. Were 3rd party apps really that much of a threat to them? I doubt it, so goodbye Twitter and your horrible ad infested app.
Me on @ivory nodding vigorously
@garius I'd been using a third party Twitter app for years before last week. Now I finally know what everyone else is complaining about. Ye gods.
