How do my #ActuallyAutistic comrades feel when at a restaurant and the food takes wayyyyy longer than expected to come out?

#AskingAutistics #AutisticFoodies

@theautisticcoach how about you have to wait for the bill?
Well than I don't pay, OK, bey
@hanscees @theautisticcoach Oh gosh, the bill.
I can manage waiting for the food, but to get the bill you sometimes actually need to wave or call out to staff to ask for it.
I'm sooooo awkward at doing that, and will let them pass me several times because the conditions weren't perfect.
@zazz damn we share this world
@theautisticcoach Outsize worry that they've lost my order or forgotten me combined with fear of being rude or causing problems for somebody who can't help the situation anyway if I say anything. A strong desire for a simple chart to tell me whether or not there's likely to be an actual problem I need to address or if it will be fine if I just keep waiting.

@theautisticcoach
I remember a couple months ago, waiting about 1 hour for my dish to be served at the restaurant.

The restaurant is self-service except for a few things like burgers or grilled meat, and you have an all-you-can-eat buffet for vegetables and potatoes (mashed and fries). We went on a national holiday so there were many clients, but the staff was stretched thin.

I remember my dad was getting angrier the more we waited.

@theautisticcoach
At some point I was pretty worried because I thought they'd give my burger to someone else so I camped in front of the burger stand, but not too close to not put too much pressure on the poor lady who said she was an intern, didn't have the habit of running that kitchen alone and was waiting for the other kitchen to bring meat.

@theautisticcoach

I felt extra bad when my dad came to ask why it took so long, as it turned out the lady apparently had my burger ready but actually gave it to someone else by mistake lol. Fortunately, he's a reasonable person and remained calm in front of the lady and thanked her.

Unfortunately, after an hour of being anxious because of my dad being angry and waiting in front of the lady I didn't even enjoy my burger that much

@theautisticcoach
It was still nice spending time with my parents and my sibling though
@theautisticcoach
(Also, I don't think there's Flunch outside France unfortunately, too bad because it's great save for that experience)
@gnu_f4jbs that sounds super distressing, Im sorry you went thru that. Lunch time in France is indeed holy, but the pressure on staff and the pressure in any lunchtime spot here make me super nervous.
@gnu_f4jbs For that reason I usually opt for lunch at service continu spots after 14h
@theautisticcoach I am #ActullyAutistic AND #ImmunoCompromised and haven’t eaten inside a restaurant since February 2020. But back when I did, I always tried to snag some kids crayons and left some crazy scrap of illustration - maybe a sketch of the inside of the restaurant, or a drawing of my anticipated meal (which is double hard for me because aphantasia).
