@nextcloud was always a fantastic solution to have a cloud that respects your #privacy, but it lacked a few features #Google and #Apple (and even#Microsoft) offered.

Not so anymore, with Nextcloud Hub 3. Photo editing tools, optional and private face recognition, improved communication features, a new design (that I really enjoy on my server), and more: Here are 5 updates that make #Nextcloud a no-brainer to replace your privacy invasive ecosystem:

@thelinuxEXP great Video! I don't understand where you store your data while using Nextcloud through VPS. Can you link the storage to your NAS? And which plan do you recommend on linode for Nextcloud? What specs should I choose for a good experience?
@niko The data is stored on the server itself :) The base shared CPU Linode is enough for most use cases, and if the storage they have isn’t enough you can add more later through the interface without having to upgrade the Linode itself (so it costs less)
@thelinuxEXP thanks! But than you still have your data on a computer of someone else 🤨 why is this ok?

@niko you don’t own the computer, but any good VPS provider will never access what is on your server. Your system is running in a VM inside of a powerful server, it’s not like they can super easily just look at all the files.

That’s how all companies work: they store their data on some kind of infrastructure. Although if that’s not good enough for your needs, you can always just self host at home

@thelinuxEXP I’m just trying to unterstand :) for me it is way better than doing it on my own as the maintenance is too difficult for me. So I’m glad you teached me about VPS!
@thelinuxEXP hey Nick, how do you backup your Nextcloud? I have now my own VPS, thank you :)
@niko I personally use the backup feature of Linode!
