What would you call Falun Gong? My first impression was Daoist, but it seems they're right wingers. They run the Epoch Times.

Falun Gong is to Daoism the way Scientology is to Aleister Crowley's Golden Dawn.

Thanks for getting this stuck in my head. [heads to the basement to get boards, string, and tacks. Mumbles "It is going to take forever to sort this out".] End scene.

It's all in the paradox man. Pick Daoism. It's a religion. Kinda. :) I'm a Unitarian I don't have to pick. 🙂

@Woodchaz @SrRochardBunson @zdl @SabinaKnight @bryankam @JimMahler @chineseliterature @philosophy

Falun Gong is a syncretic school/practice/religion. It’s based on buddhism and daoism but also incorporated some confucianism.

Their worldview is rather conservative (as is the chinese population too). Extremism (as well as violence) shall be prevented. There are some weird ideas though like mixed ethnic marriages shall be prevented, homosexuality is not ok (even if not forbidden),

and sex only shall be „executed“ without pleasure, just to make children.

So it’s comparable to more strict christian groups.

Not sure about their relation with trump stuff. But yes, since their are oppressed by china (which can hardly be defined as communist today), they could with their conservative mind set well collaborate with right wingers.

Yeah I don't know wtf to call China's system anymore. None of that for me is all I can say.
@Woodchaz @SrRochardBunson @zdl @SabinaKnight @bryankam @chineseliterature @philosophy I think we should let Falungong categorize themselves, if they're inclined to do so. Putting simplified labels on complex beliefs seldom leads to understanding.

@JimMahler @Woodchaz @zdl @SabinaKnight @bryankam @chineseliterature @philosophy

I agree in principle, but when they mass mail out the Epoch Times propaganda newspaper, and my family and friends ask what is up with it I still need a label to continue the conversation.

(This has actually happened, and me thinks that you are associated with the group )

Oh, Rio Rancho New Mexico, ay? The same city that had a Falun Gong (Dafa) day in 2007? Coincidence?

I'm just basing my take on their Youtube ads. Seems pretty pro-MAGA to me.
@SrRochardBunson No, I'm not FLG. I moved to NM in 2021. You really should avoid snap judgments based on such skimpy "evidence".

@JimMahler

I'm not looking to debate, at least in this thread, because the amount of publicly available evidence is voluminous and speaks for itself.

I'm also not criticizing a single one of their beliefs, but only highlighting the cult-like tactics that the organization utilizes.

Would like to know their explanation and readiness for discussion on this and neighbouring thread.

(Would like to ask via the #-FalunGong hashtag but fear it could get hot here.
Since this might be the wrong place(?), i deactivated the hashtag with a special character)
