Remember userbars? I remember making some in Macromedia (as it was) Fireworks, back in the day.

#2000s #internet #nostalgia

@rheophore super cool! what else would they be made in if not fireworks. where did we use these? forum post sigs?

LB: que Γ©poca

vou deixar a nostalgia me levar a dizer que a internet era melhor

@rheophore Best time. And every anime fanpage was using affiliate buttons in this style.
@rheophore I miss those userbars, and that font. It felt appreciate, honest, and had none of that Corporate Memphis nonsense we have today.
@tonytins @rheophore
the 04.jp.org font site's still up to this day
@rheophore This aesthetic reminds me of Newgrounds, for some bizarre reason.
@deadsuperhero @rheophore Something about it reminds me of Gamebanana, an old game mod site. Maybe the font, or the general aesthetic, idk
@rheophore I miss these almost as much as I miss animed gifs in forum signatures (the more appearances of Aerith / Sephiroth, Goku, or Lain the better).
@rheophore oh god Xfire πŸ˜‚ that's a program I haven't seen in forever
@rheophore I forgot that these were a thing. I kinda miss the minimalism of 5-pixel tall fonts but otherwise those bars were pretty awkward and got to be way too much way too quickly.
@rheophore how can anyone be a professional at freaking windows? (I guess it could be possible because of how unexplainable my computer is at times)
@rheophore I feel neurons in my brain squiggling around
@rheophore i was old enough to be online when those were dying out. i found them intresting but never knew what those were for
@rheophore
I don't remember user-bars.
They kind of look like browser badges, but super wide.
@humbird0 Not really that. They were inserted as a signature under every post on the forums.
@rheophore ah I remember learning to make these back in the day in gimp. So I could toss them in my forum signature.
@rheophore I looooved them! I loved how you could use a bunch of them as signatures in message boards.
@rheophore ...I'm gonna make a Disco Elysium enjoyer userbar after I finish setting up my desktop
@rheophore that font is called Visitor and I still have it lol

@rheophore @Sylvhem I know it’s a rhetorical question, but I desperately want to reply, β€˜no’ πŸ˜‰

(There, I’ve done it, got that out of my system!)

Somehow these passed me by (or I may have seen them somewhere, but I forgot)

They probably seemed sophisticated – tasteful, even – after the excrescences of the first-decade web
