Durran Durrandon@SparkleTea I don't thinks so. I have seen a very inactive targ themed one. It looks like a lot of the #twitteros crowd is staying there for now or has dissolved into Discord servers hosted by the various podcasts. It's been disappointing. I've considered launching an asoiaf server, but I'm not enthusiastic about there being a lot of takers.

FYI let me know if you do start the Mastodon targ server! I really like it around here. I will miss the ASOIAF Twitter people, but I do enjoy the Westeros YouTube crowd.
(I'm looking to move next week, my server is shutting down, sadly.)

I don't post exclusively about ASOIAF or anything, really, I just want more of the fandom here, so my Westerosi intrigue gets mixed in with my American politics intrigue.

So, yes, all this. My take has been that folks that I have tried to rally from #Twitteros, have largely joined random servers, not seen anyone, not understood how to use hashtags, and gone back to Twitter, so I think a landing spot might help a bit, but I tend to agree with Adam that it is not entirely necessary, and I am all for attempts to further rally folks.

@durrandon @SparkleTea @Something_Rose i'm curious how you've set it up. i've been thinking about organizing a friends& family instance, planning to use managed hosting (ie pay a service to set up the mastodon instance on their cloud server and i just handle the admin). you doing that? or are you doing the tech stuff yourself?
@adspar @SparkleTea @Something_Rose I went hybrid and set it up on DigitalOcean. I played around with Mastodon on virtual machine back in December and decided that I didn't want to go through doing a from scratch install on a virtual server. DigitalOcean has a relatively easy auto install process. I say relatively easy, because obviously it is not working correctly at the moment.
@durrandon @adspar @SparkleTea So I gave you a follow yesterday, didn't get a pending. Should I be joining the north of the wall server? If so, I'll need to be hand-held.
@Something_Rose @adspar @SparkleTea not yet. There is an error in the cloud storage setup that is preventing media attachments, including avatars. I have to figure out the configuration problem. I'll only have a small amount of time to work on it today. I'll keep everyone posted.
@durrandon @Something_Rose @SparkleTea fyi i'm still seeing 'pending' despite withdrawing and retrying. it takes a few mins to change from 'following' to pending.
@adspar @Something_Rose @SparkleTea Not too surprising. I'm getting the same 500 authorization error when I try to search for people outside of the insurance as when I try to upload media. I'll get it worked out. I just need a bit of time. I'm at work at the moment and have a bit on my plate this evening.
3eyedcrow@durrandon @adspar @Something_Rose @SparkleTea So, after a reboot it is working, working, now, kind of sort of. I still need to get it off of storage on the virtual server and onto cloud storage, soon and before letting people join. But I have to get back to work, work, so maybe tomorrow.

Everything is up and running now. I just switched my main account over. It works beautifully.
