Will I bitch about this forever? YES. That money and cast could have been spent on a much better show.
I think it's such a shame that the numpty running that show didn't understand that 1) you listen to GRRM at all times, he knows best & 2) you're supposed to run two stories at the same time in a framing like this: the immediate short term conflict + the overarching world, it's influence, and the long term consequences of that short term conflict.
