I just set up a new public Signal number on this old cheap Android phone that has a battery that's ballooning out so much the case doesn't really fit on it
What to do with a swollen battery

Removal and disposal of a swollen battery can be dangerous, but leaving a swollen battery inside a device can also cause serious harm. Read all warnings carefully and proceed at your own risk. All batteries are hazardous waste and must be disposed of properly.

@micahflee those are some quality #DangerPillow images there...
@micahflee I've had to inform someone their battery was a fire hazard at my last Repair Cafe. At least the casing could be saved, should be easy enough to replace the battery in it!

@micahflee Time for a new phone! I had that happen a few times with an iPhone. It started heating up and was losing charging capabilities. I went to a cellular dealer and replaced the phone. He told me I was lucky it didn’t catch fire. It can happen.

A neighbors iPhone was left laying on a bed while they were out and caught the house on fire! Fire Department traced it to the charging cell phone left on the bed!

@micahflee That is vaguely terrifying.
@micahflee

Is that a Galaxy Nexus device? Kinda looks like one ... one that would soon be a literal burner phone lol...
@micahflee A pessimist sees a fire hazard. An optimist sees a bigger battery.
@micahflee A battery that is that swollen could be very dangerous. I tried to get a discount from Apple by trading in a MacBook. It looked ok to me and worked fine, but they said it had a swollen battery and would not give me a cent.
@micahflee in my industry if we see a battery like that we're required to dispose of it because of fire hazard.
@micahflee Careful, batteries in that state are a big explosion / fire risk.
@micahflee soon to be sending out smoke Signals?
@micahflee how much are you charging that thing
@micahflee Looks like battery is replaceable? Have you found any yet?
@micahflee To get yourself ready, just go ahead and dial 9 and 1 now
@micahflee Had phones almost as bad as that in my pocket for a few months before getting around to replacing the battery... Now got a Fairphone which has a very easily replaced battery (and so far no issues with the original battery).
@DanielRThomas @micahflee this sounds based -- thank you, we are taking note 🫡📲
