Book friends! My Teen (18) is looking for books starring an NB protag.

*NOT* sad stories, angsty stories of coming out, etc etc.

Just awesome NBs being awesome.

@WestCoastChelle Love Beyond Body, Space & Time: An Indigenous LGBT Sci-Fi Anthology

@WestCoastChelle If they like sci-fi, my favorite is The Last Gifts of the Universe by Rory August! You could also browse the finalists in the non-binary representation category in the Indie Ink Awards, though some of those books might be more about coming out, etc.

Oh! Cute Mutants is also pretty good.

Indie Ink Awards 2022 - Indie Story Geek

@WestCoastChelle if they're okay with gothic horror (creepy not gory) then What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher is really good.
@WestCoastChelle A Psalm for the Wild-built and A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers. The Empress of Salt and Fortune and its two sequels by Nghi Vo

@WestCoastChelle
Not sure if this fits the bill of not being angsty. This one is about a person who is in high school and recently moved whose parent is a politician soooo... might be kinda angsty?

I can't remember as it's been about four years since I read it. I do recall really liking it and cheering for Riley, the main character.

Anyway it's called, "Symptoms of Being Human" by Jeff Garvin

@WestCoastChelle if they like fantasy, the Singing Hills Cycle by Nghi Vo is a great series! The novellas are quick reads, and not very related to each other, but they are all very enjoyable, and the NB main character is present throughout all of them.

@bwebster Yes! I've read 2/3 (waiting on 3 to come in at the library). Those are actually the books that sparked the conversation :D

I really enjoyed them so much, they're kind of a love letter to story-telling.

@WestCoastChelle Ali Velshi of MSNBC is operating a banned book ๐Ÿ“š club that you might like
@WestCoastChelle I give all the tweens in my life The Mists Of Avalon
Marion Zimmer Bradley
@WestCoastChelle Once and Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori Mccarthy - queer retelling of King Arthur in space, with several NB characters

@WestCoastChelle Thereโ€™s an awesome little queer #bookshop in York called The Portal Bookshop https://the-portal-bookshop.square.site

The owner Lali is a wonderful #NB person with an encyclopaedic knowledge of #queer #literature. Send them a message and theyโ€™ll be able to recommend all kinds of amazing thing.
