It’s time we reminded everyone that since Reagan it’s been Democrats who have consistently gotten the deficit under control, and it’s been Republicans who EVERY SINGLE TIME blew those savings on a tax cut for the rich, blowing up the deficit yet again.
@aravosis Good luck breaking through the right wing noise machine.

@GuitarGirl

@aravosis

Whoa. It really is that easy, isn't it? Our main task to defeat global fascism is simply to be louder and more confident than the crazies.

@aravosis

Cannot be repeated often enough.

@aravosis
True indeed. Too bad a large percentage of the country prefers catchy phrases like “make America great again” and stupid red ball caps and flags with conmen pictures and meaningless words like “woke”. It’s a shame these same voters love ACA but hate Obamacare. These people have decided they don’t need pensions or SSI. If only govt would keep immigrants out and white privilege in there’d be more for them. And, of course, tax cuts for the wealthy will continue to trickle down.
@aravosis there is an infographic from Canada showing the 'deficit' there --exact same thing (Conservative Party vs Liberal Party with the Liberals bringing it down and the Conservatives exploding it....pre-pandemic to be sure). The years each was in power were clearly defined on the graph.
It's the kind of information whose graph is incredibly persuasive. With tax policies it might be a bit more complicated with bleeding into new administrations...
not sure.
The stock market is failing according to the CBI. So why don’t we just let it go?

I posted this on Twitter this morning: https://twitter.com/RichardJMurphy/status/1942861045426516103 My point is serious. The CBI is saying that the situation with regard to the UK stock exchange is getting desperate, because it is losing out to overseas markets and not attracting sufficient business. The question that needs to be asked is, why is that?...

Funding the Future
@aravosis WORD! Unfortunately, people in this country have a short memory and an even shorter attention span.
@aravosis this one : gives the finger to their trickle down (hence their hatred of both Clintons)

@aravosis

Regan inflation rate 13%
Biden 8%

@aravosis it’d be better if the Democratic Party would, like, have a coordinated messaging campaign about this stuff? Like, talking points that different officials could repeat?

It kills me that the Republicans are capable of doing this, but not the Democrats.

@Liggs17 @aravosis I find that the loudest & most visually active people in the companies I work for are more often than not the people who do the least amount of actual work.
@aravosis more precisely, it has been Democrat party presidents with Republican party House of Representatives. It has always taken both.
@aravosis Hey that's not entirely true, it wasn't all blown on tax cuts. They also tanked revenues by cratering the economy, bungling a pandemic and allowing financial deregulation to run amok.
@aravosis The federal government doesn't need a surplus of dollars in order to do anything. "Solving" the federal deficit is a pointless endeavor. In fact, the half dozen or so times we've done that in the past, it was always followed by economic disaster. This notion that the US, with all of our abundant resources, is somehow "broke" is the height of absurdity. It's just an excuse for the ultrawealthy to keep destroying quality, public-owned services in favor of their own mediocre scams.

@aravosis The deficit is a myth. Every time we reduce the deficit we slow the economy. When we reduce the actual debt we induce recession.

The so-called debt is the national wealth. The federal government is not funded by taxes. Stop believing voodoo and please read some modern monetary macroeconomics.

Where does the infinite money for defense come from? No one ever asks that question.

@aravosis @raballentine another way of framing this is, since reagan it's always the dems who buy into deficit scaremongering and attempt to kick the football, and every time the gop yanks the ball away

@aravosis John, this is because Republicans use the federal govt to help their constituents with tax cuts & military spending.

Then they claim "government spending" is bad to scare Democrats away from helping US.

When you talk about Democrats "getting the deficit under control" you are rewarding Republicans for that strategy.
