I find there’s very little conversation on Instagram too, I get the impression of people robotically scrolling through and clicking like on stuff but not engaging. Pippa 🌈@timrichards @sbwright this is why I stopped using Instagram too. I could tell I wasn’t getting everything uploaded by the people I followed (friends would mention something they had posted, but which hadn’t come up on my feed) but there were so many adverts and so much recommended content all the time, not to mention how things completely stopped being displayed in chronological order 😰
my husband still browses Instagram just to passively view content because he doesn’t interact with anybody or participate in the social aspect, but for everybody else, it’s a mess 🫠
Now at @@timrichards @pippa @sbwright It's turned into an endless feed of videos I'm not interested in from channels I don't follow, interspersed with click-to-purchase ads from overpriced fashion brands.

Koen Martens@timrichards I have only been on instagram for a short while, on the advice of my book marketeer, but I don't get it. All the interaction I get is with scammers, and all the content is algorithm-driven bullshit I'm not interested in... Seems to be popular though, but it's mostly a marketing tool it seems.
@gmc Agreed, it seems low-interaction and quite tedious.
@timrichards Actually, discussing this, I realised I haven't posted anything for weeks on there. I'm quite active on the fediverse these days, and don't have the time to bother with multiple social media networks.
jellibat@timrichards i think with so many ads there now its draining to use, i block every third post it seems and it just annoys me to see ads, and most the videos they push are just shopping channel style BS anyway, or stolen tik toks.
and the following tab doesn't actually show every post in order from people you follow like it's meant to.
most people only post to stories now to be seen, and that fleeting post format is not a good way to interact. it's a shame as it used to be the best social media for me
