This. Is. FASCINATING: “The vaccine, which contains dead versions of the bacterium Paenibacillus larvae, comes in the form of food. The vaccine is incorporated into royal jelly, a sugar feed given to queen bees. Once they ingest it, the vaccine is then deposited in their ovaries, giving developing larvae immunity as they hatch.” https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/07/science/honeybee-vaccine.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
U.S.D.A. Approves First Vaccine for Honeybees

Dalan Animal Health’s vaccine for American foulbrood, an aggressive bacterial disease, is the first for any insect in the United States.

The New York Times
@lussenpop This may be a game changer, especially in southern climes where they have no brood break and the queens lay year round! Don't know who's old enough to remember the first polio vaccine - a pink dot of liquid dropped onto a sugar cube.
@lussenpop paywall but seriously I never try to open links from social media so thanks this is interesting!
@knf100 Guardian covered it too, and no paywall there
@erasmid @knf100 yeah, most stories are just copies of others. And that started long before chatgpt.
@lussenpop pretty important breakthrough!

@lussenpop

Can't wait to try the 5G honey

@lussenpop can we do this to save native bees
@lussenpop The vaccine was developed by researchers Dalial Freitak and Heli Salmela working at Helsinki University's Viikki campus. https://yle.fi/a/74-20011730
US approves honey bee vaccine developed in Finland

The US has approved the world's first vaccine for declining honey bee populations.

News
@lussenpop Hope this is a successful treatment for hive collapse…… we need our bees
USDA approves world's first vaccine for honeybees

The U.S. and other countries have seen declines in bee colonies, which play a vital role in agriculture.

Axios
@lussenpop time for human vaccinations to come to us as food instead of in needles in our arms!
@lussenpop I can’t wait for the antivax conspiritainment trolls to get their hands on this. Make sure your hive is nowhere near a 5G emitter unless you want gay communist bees.
@lussenpop @aral what could possibly go wrong? 🤦‍♂️
@lussenpop Ugh. Paywall, but that sounds fascinating!
@lussenpop Honeybees are not native to North America and threaten our local bees by outcompeting them for resources. On the plus side this vaccine will reduce the diseases honeybees spread to the native bees.
@lussenpop That sounds like that could be a really great development!

@lussenpop

This is amazing, because for now controlling foulbrood is done by burning all the affected beehives.

first they turned the frogs gay, now they're coming for the bees
@lussenpop sadly most bees don't have insurance.
@lussenpop there was a lady in Europe who injected chickens with vaccines to bacterial infections and then ate the eggs to give herself the igg/igm needed to acquire the same antibodies. It's really interesting what we can do with animals. If only we did do this it's to my knowledge never been tried anywhere.
@lussenpop Let’s hope the bees are “normies” and take the vax rather than ingesting bleach or horse paste.
@lussenpop that’s just so amazing!
@lussenpop Thanks fr answering my question. 😊

@lussenpop

This is only going to lead to anti-vax-drone-bees that wear teeny tiny tinfoil hats over their antennae...

@lussenpop as a beekeeper this is fucking incredible news.
@lussenpop way overpriced honey from "unvaccinated hives" making its way onto alt-med pages in 10... 9...
@lussenpop Now we’re talkin. Let’s save other species besides ourselves. We’ve made a real cock up of things.

@lussenpop

Now can we do vaccines for native species instead?

@lussenpop It's too bad they can't create an ingestable COVID vaccine for humans and secretly put it in stuff like mayonnaise and barbeque sauce.
@lussenpop Bill Gates going to use bees against his enemies. Guy is streets ahead!

@lussenpop sign my petition to deliver the next COVID vaccine in royal jelly!

You will get jellyVax™ on a little silver spoon then curl up in an octagonal cubbyhole for fifteen minutes afterwards.
