What pisses me off about a good portion of the #left is that they will say things like "Neither party represents the #workingclass, they only will differ in bullshit #culturewar talking points."

For one, that is only partially true. Only one party wants to cut/defund/privatize #socialsecurity, #disability and other #welfare programs.

Secondly, that implies bullshit culture war things don't matter which is a fundamentally privileged take. You may not be affected by them, but a whole lot of people are. Banning #trans healthcare, #abortion, #contraceptives, etc

Those last 2 things are only threatened because conservatives know how to play the long game with things like the #supremecourt

Anyone who considers themselves remotely left wing or progressive really needs to get it together.

@GeorgeMerl

Exactly why Labour haven't been an effective force for the past decade.

@GeorgeMerl

It’s true that culture war topics have meaning and there are legitimate moves toward a better future

However, it seems that any time a topic hits the political limelight the majority of discourse has no actual substance, in that it is easily repeatable rhetoric

I believe the ‘neither cares about the working class’ take comes from the fact that it’s almost impossible to become a high ranking politician as a good person, so most politicians don’t actually care

@GeorgeMerl

The best we can expect from politics in the imperial core is some harm reduction. That's just a simple fact. That's why the focus of liberation cannot entirely rely on politics. It's always been this way.

@veirling
I'd argue that even things like increased welfare are anti-imperialist. They starve the war machine of recruits.

@GeorgeMerl

Yeah, I agree. I start from the premise that our capital is stolen by the ruling class and the empire. Any of that value that comes back to the people is just and good.

@GeorgeMerl I believe Clinton was famous for cutting welfare
