More than €17 million worth of welfare overpayments to people no longer living in Ireland were uncovered over the past two years, with around €8.2 million recouped during the same period.
The Department of Social Protection said some of the money recovered could include overpayments from other years and that efforts to claw back the money continued on an ongoing basis.

The report said #Finland & the other Northern European countries’ steady ranking on top is related to a combination of wealth, its #equal distribution, having a #welfare state that protects people from the risks of #recessions, & a healthy life expectancy.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb reacted Thursday to his country being in first place again, saying: “I do not think there is a magic potion, but it helps to have a society which strives towards #freedom, #equality & #justice.”
