Indiana joins the billionaire stadium welfare program

First, Kansas decided to help fund the National Football League’s (NFL) Kansas City Chiefs move from Missouri to Kansas earlier this year to the tune of $2.8 billion. Now, Indiana will be doling out $1 billion to help the Chicago Bears move to neighboring Hammond, Indiana.

Just like Kansas, there are many more useful purposes for $1 billion that could greatly benefit the average residents of Indiana than another football stadium. Perhaps, improving the quality of life for all Hoosiers would be a useful alternative?

Per CNBC, Indiana received a grade of F and was ranked 48th in the nation in terms of Quality of Life in 2025. Only Texas and Tennessee are worse. Weaknesses are Child Care, Reproductive Rights, Inclusiveness, and Air Quality. – cnbc.com

But today, welfare for the rich and corporations appears to outweigh any empathy, sympathy, or care for the sick, poor, unhoused, the needy, or the unfortunate.

#لوگر؛ ۲۰۰ متر مربع زمین برای کلینیک فرعی #هلال‌احمر_افغانی وقف شد

به‌منظور توسعه و تقویت #خدمات_صحی در کلینیک فرعی میر سید محمود مربوط هلال‌احمر افغانی در ولایت لوگر، ۲۰۰ متر مربع #زمین وقف این مرکز صحی گردید و به ملکیت آن درآمد.

زمین یادشده، #ملکیت شخصی خانواده انجینر سید هاشم غضنفر، از باشندگان قریه ساداتِ منطقه کلنگار ولایت لوگر بود. این خانواده به‌منظور انجام امور #خیرخواهانه و به‌منظور #تقویت و گسترش خدمات صحی برای باشندگان منطقه، ملکیت مذکور را به کلینیک فرعی میر سید محمود وقف نمود.

در مراسمی که به همین مناسبت برگزار شد، مولوی سید هاشم سادات، رئیس نمایندگی ولایتی هلال‌احمر افغانی در لوگر، رئیس دیوان جزای محکمه استیناف لوگر، شماری از علمای دین و بزرگان قومی حضور داشتند.

مولوی سید هاشم سادات ضمن قدردانی از این #اقدام نیک خانواده یادشده، اظهار داشت که همکاری مردم در راستای #توسعه خدمات صحی، یکی از ارکان اساسی تقویت خدمات عامه و پیشرفت اجتماعی به شمار می‌رود.

همچنین، انجینر سید هاشم غضنفر بر تداوم همکاری‌های خود در زمینه آبادانی #کشور، توسعه خدمات صحی و تأمین منافع عامه تأکید کرد.

قابل یادآوری است که این خانواده پیش از این نیز ۸۰۰ متر مربع زمین را برای همین مرکز صحی وقف کرده بود؛ با وقف ۲۰۰ متر مربع زمین جدید، مجموع زمین‌های وقفی آنان برای این مرکز به ۱۰۰۰ متر مربع رسید.

در پایان مراسم، نمایندگی ولایتی هلال‌احمر افغانی در لوگر به پاس این اقدام خیرخواهانه، #لوح_تقدیر را به خانواده انجینر سید هاشم غضنفر اهدا نمود.

هلال‌احمر افغانی همکاری خیرین و شخصیت‌های ملی را در راستای گسترش #خدمات_بشردوستانه و ارتقای رفاه عمومی جامعه، ارزشمند و قابل تقدیر می‌داند.

To #support the expansion and strengthening of #healthcare_services, 200 square meters of land have been donated to the Mir Sayed Mahmood Basic Health Clinic of the ARCS in Logar Province, becoming part of the clinic’s property.

The #land was privately owned by the family of Engineer Sayed Hashim Ghazanfar, residents of Sayyidan Village in the Kalangar area of Logar. In support of public #welfare and the enhancement of healthcare services for local communities, the family #dedicated the property to the Mir Sayed Mahmood Basic Health Clinic.

A ceremony marking the #donation was attended by Mawlawi Sayed Hashim Sadat, Head of the ARCS Logar Provincial Branch, the Head of the Criminal Chamber of the Logar Court of Appeal, religious scholars, and community elders.

During the #event, Mawlawi Sayed Hashim Sadat expressed his appreciation for the family’s #generous contribution, emphasizing that community support for healthcare development is a key factor in #strengthening public services and promoting social progress.

Engineer Sayed Hashim Ghazanfar also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to #national_development, healthcare services, and the public good.

It is worth noting that the same family had previously donated 800 square meters of land for the clinic. With the addition of the newly donated land, the total area dedicated to the facility has now reached 1,000 square meters.

At the #conclusion of the ceremony, the ARCS Logar Provincial Branch presented a #certificate of appreciation to the family of Engineer Sayed Hashim Ghazanfar in recognition of their valuable contribution.

Podcast Episode: The Most Important Lesson from Mutualism: Save Now

In the late 19th century, when workers in northern Chile arrived to work in the nitrate fields, there were no pension funds, no public health insurance, and no unemployment benefits. They had something more fragile yet more powerful: organized solidarity. It was called mutualism.

What Mutualism Was

Mutual aid societies and workers’ associations were nonprofit organizations created by workers for workers. They emerged to cover needs the State at the time did not address: healthcare, death benefits, education, housing, and a basic pension. Their financing mechanism was straightforward: each member paid a monthly fee. Those funds went into a common pool used to support members in need.

At its peak, between 1891 and 1924, the mutualist movement was the most important social organization in Chile. It paved the way for trade unions, political parties, and the social legislation that governs labor today.

The Paradox of Decline

The irony of mutualism is that the very social laws it helped advance eventually made mutual aid societies less essential. As the State assumed responsibility for healthcare, pensions, and labor protection, mutuals lost their core purpose.

Today, 223 mutual aid societies operate in Chile with approximately 40,000 members. Their benefits are largely limited to death allowances and burial space. The giant that helped build modern Chile now lies dormant.

The Enduring Lesson

One lesson from mutualism has not aged: no one is coming to rescue you. Not then, not now. Mutualists understood this 130 years ago and built their own social security, contribution by contribution. They did not wait for the State or employers to act; they took action.

Today the context is different, but the principle remains. We live in a world of uncertainty, with inadequate pensions, rising healthcare costs, and persistent job instability. The collective response of mutualism is no longer available in the same way. The individual response of saving is.

Saving as an Act of Freedom

Saving is not for the wealthy. It is for anyone who understands that the future is built through present decisions. The power of compound interest—where saved money earns returns that generate further returns—works exactly the same with five thousand Chilean pesos as with five million. The only determining variable is time.

The question you should ask today is not whether you can save, but how much you can start saving now. Because the best time to start was ten years ago. The second-best time is today.
