I may need to take this quote to heart.

"Think not of the books you've bought as a 'to be read' pile. Instead, think of your bookcase as a wine cellar. You collect books to be read at the right time, the right place, and the right mood." - Luc van Donkersgoed, as quoted at https://www.instagram.com/p/CnBV6PqPxZm/

The TBR pile is dead! Long live the #BookCellar!

@verumsolum “The Bookseller’s Book Cellar” is a title waiting for a home!
@verumsolum "Book Cellar" rhymes with "Book Seller" need thesaurus. Book cave. Book collection.
@verumsolum Be nice if I had a much bigger wine cellar to store them all in though. Not to mention less antique hardware and electronic musical instruments etc. etc...
The Virtue of Owning Books You Haven’t Read: Why Umberto Eco Kept an “Antilibrary”

When considering whether to buy yet another book, you might well ask yourself when you'll get around to reading it. But perhaps there are other, even more important considerations, such as the intellectual value of the book in its still-unread state.

@verumsolum OMG I love this! This describes what I actually do!
@verumsolum lovely quote. But I would say that my bookcellar rather contains the "to be *re*-read books". The books that are waiting for their first reading are near my bed to be picked in an emergency sleeplessness. While I go to the bookcellar with an idea of what book I need. (I like this word bookcellar).
@verumsolum And you can enjoy the same bottle multiple times. Something kind of biblical about that
@verumsolum 🙏🙏🙏 i definitely am taking this to heart!
@verumsolum This is so true for me. I have a TBR list of over 650 books dating back to 2008, and I rarely go in any kind of order. Sometimes I read what I just recently discovered. Sometimes I pick something that I added to the list 5 years ago. Sometimes I'll choose something vastly different from my previous read. There's no rhyme or reason. It's all about how I'm feeling and what I want as a diversion from [waves vaguely at life] "all of that." #Bookstodon
