Extreme MAGA House Republicans are already achieving part of their goal — preventing the U.S. government from functioning.
@rbreich Bingo. I've been saying this too, that the longer they go without a Speaker, the more quickly our government becomes even more dysfunctional. Mission accomplished.
@rbreich @GottaLaff
At what point do their voters send angry letters? Or is that taboo in order to conform to their anti-govt stance?
@grammasaurus @rbreich @GottaLaff I think most of their voters actually don’t want dysfunction even if they voted for it. Because it isn’t going to be what they thought.
@GottaLaff
By the time Nov. 2024 election comes, and if the republicans continue to lust for power at the expense of the countries business maybe the majority electorate will have had enough. The 2022 mids indicated that. People want stability more than ever. The circus won't give them that.
@Dutch1889 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
@GottaLaff @rbreich That is EXACTLY their goal!
@parislady1492 @rbreich Money and power, ChristoFascism. It’s horrifying.
@rbreich I suspect this may turn out badly. But it is entertaining for just now.
@rbreich how does that differ from the ones that are main-extreme republicons. I mean, Neuter Grinch wanted to drown our government in a bathtub nearly forty years ago. Its the closest thing they have to a unifying platform.
@rbreich We’ll need to watch the concessions they squeeze out of McCarthy, that’s where the real govt impact will be.
@rbreich they thrive on disruption.. breaking everything is the plan.
@rbreich The only thing worse than this Republican controlled House not functioning would be this Republican controlled House functioning. “Oh no, they haven’t passed any bills requiring public schools to serve horse paste for lunch, and they’ve failed to outlaw women wearing trousers. What a tragedy. What a loss for the nation.”
@rbreich they didn't realize that Ron Swanson was a joke.
@rbreich In what way are they any different than the rest of the republicans who are also preventing the US government from functioning?
@rbreich Exactly. This has never been, is, or will ever be about our country. This is only about their egos and willingness to sabotage our country for power.
@rbreich I really think that is the intent. The nine or so Republican moderates left should vote for Jefferies in the next round.
@rbreich guess that’s what Russia, China, and North Korea want

@rbreich

Traitors all

Taylor Caldwell:

@rbreich Of all the major parts of the government to cease functioning, the House of Representatives is the most inconsequential one, at least for the next year or so.
@rbreich They get nothing from an actual session, given their extreme positions, and incompetence, so this is their zenith. It's the suicide pact inside a locked-in two-party system.
@rbreich if there were any repubs left in office with any interest in governing, any concern for the Great Experiment, they would change parties now. The 20 aren't the only bad guys. The rest are supporting an absolute scumbag.
@rbreich As this is my first post on this forum I’m reluctant to seem to dramatic but…. People need to keep in mind that the future of this country as we know it is still at stake. Electing President Biden slowed the national bleeding but not enough. The people on both sides of the aisle need to understand that weaponizing politics doesn’t work. The time to move forward is now or I’m afraid,never
@rbreich and the voters knew what they were getting. Boebert and all have been nothing but petulant children since the start, they exist only to cause damage.
@rbreich exactly what I came on to ask. Surely they have achieved their goal of stopping the normal functioning of the government 🤷🏽‍♀️?
@rbreich Not for a whole lot longer it appears. We're seeing the last heaves of puking from the nasty American experiment in fascism. I could be wrong, but let's see these clowns block the mountain of legislation we've passed for the next two years while they spew out 'conservative ideals' that are nothing more than austerity for the sole purpose of keeping the people under the boot heel.

@rbreich

Trump SUPER SUPPORTERS.

@rbreich if they were really serious they will tell Kevin or Steve to step aside or meet all demands or we are voting for jefferies

@rbreich
Their policy is to grab power to enforce minority rule by any means possible, regardless of harm to the country.

That contempt for democracy has to be given enough rope to fully and undeniably expose itself, and earn them the contempt of the moderates they need to be electable.

@rbreich Their goal/Putin’s goal. Fascist synergy
@rbreich They’re not on our side.
@rbreich Do you think that’s what the objective was in the first place?
@rbreich a must read: “One thing I have clocked is how Musk’s evolution into an alt-right shitposter has dovetailed nicely with the conservative fetish for anti-governance.” https://slate.com/technology/2023/01/elon-musk-new-billionaire-rule.html
What Elon Musk Is Teaching Us About Billionaires

It’s all a game to him—but, actually, it’s also a game with no outcome that matters.

Slate
@rbreich why isn’t this considered part of their insurrection attempt? They are for the second time in history trying to hold the government hostage to force their desired outcome!
@rbreich Honestly that's their best idea.
