After almost five years, the Irish DPC decided on a noyb complaint and required Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp to stop using the personal data of users for advertisement in the EU.

@noybeu
This also sets a strong precedent for outside Europe and other social media companies. *cough* Twitter *cough* TikTok *cough* Google. When the first domino falls...

Way to go Noyb.eu!

@noybeu @meta Would that the US were so concerned.

@noybeu Excellent news.

PS. @meta isn’t actually Meta :)

@aral

A great example of the problems Twitter cross-post bots can cause :/

@aral The only true Meta I know for sure is @metasj.

@noybeu

@noybeu @meta This has huge implications for @meta's data-driven products.

From what I understand, the GDPR has been a major win for privacy advocates, and a major blow for businesses that deal in private info.

Meta dealt blow by EU ruling that could result in data use ‘opt-in’

@noybeu @meta Irish DPC comes off very poorly too. Bought and paid for
@noybeu @meta this is why you should avoid cross posting 😏
@noybeu @meta The EU NOYB to Meta's empire today
@noybeu @meta oh to be an EU member and have privacy from cyberstalker numero uno. (Formerly)
@noybeu @meta is this bad news for Meta in UK too?
@noybeu @meta as a privacy advocate, i love this. As a marketer, not so much. It is a really tough spot to be in but humanity will be better for it. I say we just go back to USENET. Decentralize everything, make everyone anonymous, and get on with a new internet paradigm.
@noybeu great work! this is good news for EU citizen privacy. Do not think this is over by a long shot. F’burg will continue to bribe bully and weasel thier way out of it. We must always be vigilant.

"Users may also take action over the illegal use of their data for the past 4.5 years."
Let's spread the message : any user of of Facebook may sue them. It's just a matter of European citizenship and good will. #killtheevil
@meta
@noybeu @meta @pulsewidth if only the same would happen in North America.
@noybeu @meta we need something similar to the G.P.D.R. right here in North America
