As I _once again_ bought more books than I can read over the holidays, I'm reminded of this viewpoint:

Think not of the books you've bought as a "to be read" pile. Instead, think of your bookcase as a wine cellar. You collect books to be read at the right time, the right place, and the right mood.

@donkersgoed I love books, and I entirely agree.
@donkersgoed this is absolutely how I view my books. I have ones I bought on their release day, or preordered, and I'm just waiting on the right day to savor them.
@donkersgoed I’ll have to tell my wife this
What our shelves of unread books teach us about ourselves

Many readers buy books with every intention of reading them, only to let them linger on the shelf. The Japanese call this practice tsudoku.

I offer this, originally posted (sorry, tooted) by @adar: https://bigthink.com/neuropsych/do-i-own-too-many-books/

@donkersgoed I now finally have an answer when my wife asks me why most of the games I bought in my Steam library are unplayed. Thank you!
@donkersgoed I'm currently thinking about handling the tasks on my TODO list at work like this.
@donkersgoed Oh, I needed that perspective. Thank you!
@donkersgoed exit pile for unreadable, mis bought books?
@donkersgoed Is it a quote from Marie Kondo? I'd agree though.
@donkersgoed Wise Words. 🙏🏻👍🏻
@donkersgoed given your books do not contain a version number.. then it's not wine but "other alcoholic beverage'
@donkersgoed This makes me feel much better about my pile of unread books 📚
@donkersgoed
Tried to explain that to my girlfriend once. She still doesn't get that I enjoy the feel of a book in my hands rather than "listening" to someone read it to me. It's the journey after all. Peace Carry on.
@donkersgoed As far as I remember german novelist Günter Grass, of whom I am not a particular fan, though, once remarked, that he buys about five times the amount of books he can ever read. A motto both of us would wholeheartedly subscribe to, I guess :)
@donkersgoed I loooooove this 😂😂 thanks for this great insight ! 📚📖
