It’s done! 365 days of recording the local temperature and weather in a knitted scarf.
@juliawildsmith That is amazing! What a great idea!
@juliawildsmith This is fantastic, Judith! Out of interest, how localised is the temperature? (I love the idea of a series of scarves each recording a different microclimate!)
@drd I used the BBC weather app, localised on my village area. I might repeat it in 5 years or so to compare.
@juliawildsmith this is awesome (@Sundazed - check this out! 😀)

@krisfreedain @juliawildsmith temp/weather/mood… I love “recording” knitting. I have a book full of pattern ideas.

I love the idea of recording your emotions and seeing seasonal changes

@krisfreedain @juliawildsmith I thought I had the book, but I cannot find it right now. However, I did find it on ramazon Check this out! https://a.co/d/bxrQhSQ

@krisfreedain @juliawildsmith first time I met the author she was wandering around a convention I was working (Craftcation). She had an apron with 6 pockets and each had a different color. She was knitting a scarf about the convention attendees. She asked each person she encountered what their craft was - major craft themes represented by the 6 colors - and also had a notepad, so she could capture the rows when in a crowd.

There were approximately 450 attendees

@krisfreedain @juliawildsmith as a knitter myself, she let me knit my own row. 🤗
@juliawildsmith
Oh that is just beautiful! I saw the pic before the description and thought, "Love that splash of red in the middle!" Hope you weren't too sweltering.
@juliawildsmith why so cold?!!!!
@cowman Temperate climate in the south of England. However, here’s the summer section which is not shown well in the picture
@juliawildsmith @cowman Creativity with a purpose. I love this.
@juliawildsmith Brilliant I used a graph on my profile but it proved too esoteric for the masses Bravo
@juliawildsmith I love the pattern you chose, and the colorway, too. Can you share your color key for the temperature and weather? I’m so curious!
@juliawildsmith did you have a set time of the day that you selected the temperature or how did you pick what temperature to use each day? As I have thought about doing something similar other years but the temperature often varies 20 or more degrees a day
@reanst I chose the maximum temperature each day. I guess an average temperature would work too. Just need to pick one and be consistent!
@juliawildsmith a scarf is such a great idea! I've always loved the temperature blanket idea, but though a whole blanket was a little much. A scarf is just perfect, though 👍🏻
@juliawildsmith Wow. That is breathtaking in scope and splendour.
@juliawildsmith just going to finalise my climate stripes update for 2022 tomorrow but here's a draft!
@juliawildsmith What a remarkable thing! Truly wonderful!
@juliawildsmith beautiful!! What a great idea!
@juliawildsmith How did you decide on the colour for each temperature gradient?
@Moocher Here’s my chart.
@juliawildsmith Did you do two strands per day, one from temperature and one from the list on the right?
@Oldbirch Yes, I knitted two rows, both using one from each side for temperature and weather. This gave added texture to the piece and also varied the colour eg blue with yellow on a cold sunny day or green with dark grey for a warmer but rainy day.
@juliawildsmith thank you! It gave such a lovely result!
@juliawildsmith That’s an amazingly beautiful way of recording and remembering 2022. Well done!

@juliawildsmith

I can’t believed, is for real? I mean, I would like to know what is the meaning (value) of each color… beautiful scarf 👍

@oscarjms Each colour represent a 5 degree (centigrade) range. The added mohair strands represent the main weather each day.
@juliawildsmith So not many warm days at all?! The reality of your weather seems quite stark when you see it represented like this. 😳
@bernicecbc Here’s the summer section which is a bit curled up in the picture. Temperatures ranged between 20 and 35 degrees centigrade. Plenty warm enough for me!
@juliawildsmith Yes, warm enough for me, too. I’d say your summers are similar to the ones we get in Newfoundland.
@bernicecbc I think we’re on a similar latitude so that makes sense.
@juliawildsmith oooh I love these kinds of projects!! what system did you use for which colors=weather/temp?
@juliawildsmith Amazing work💖 What an original idea. Would be interested to know where in the world you got this data from. Ours would have a lot of red in it... 😕
@Godfrey642 I used the BBC weather app for the daily temperature. Weather was determined by looking out of the window, or by the app if I was away from home!
