@astrelion Because there's no incentive over going back to town? Be cool if there was a progress marker - if they get so far on adventure our adventurer gets a special treasure/reward - going back to town resets this count?
@thecesspit@dungeons that's an interesting idea, may be something for the future. For now though, there is a benefit from short resting in that its going to be an hour+ longer going back to town, since we go to town, rest, often shop once, then choose to to come back. Short rest saves you all that (assuming we have hit dice, which we do)
@astrelion I'm still unclear about the difference between short and long rest. I remember it was explained but due to the nature of Mastodon I can't easily refresh my memory. So I've been voting long rest because bigger is better.
@snork303@thecesspit@dungeons I've always thought of hit dice/short rests akin to health potions in other games. You short rest when you have hit dice and regain some health on the go. If we don't have hit dice or perhaps are missing almost all of our health, we could spend *more time* going to town and resting up. Time (and current amount of hit dice) are biggest factor in which you choose, IMO
Long rest takes 3 total polls to get back in the fight (90m), short rest takes 1 poll (30m)
@astrelion Makes sense... With spells coming, long rests become even more advantageous in - this - game. It's not big deal to take an extra two polls.
In my campaign, we often just can't long rest - it's too dangerous. So short rests are the choice g like those health potions. Or when you play a warlock ;) @snork303@dungeons
@astrelion You could have a choice of quests in town. If you choose one, game selects random encounters from that quest line (for a theme). If you go far enough in reward. If you escape to town - lose all progress - and maybe it becomes harder in future?
Quest encounters eventually could be traps, npcs etc. Players could have choicrme of this or that encounter.
Encounters could be easier for some classes/builds than others (range weapons vs. Melee like you already have).
But I am not the dev and know this is probably lots of work. I do mean to check out the Repo, but suspect help is well beyond my skill level of programming - even if that's what you were looking for. @snork303@dungeons
@special_parakeet@dungeons there is a LOT more to D&D as a whole. Exploring, interacting with NPC's, teaming up with your party, going on adventures, etc.
This bite-sized game though, only really seems to be looking at combat.
