The 100th episode of The War on Cars is quickly approaching and I'm putting this out to followers here...

In your opinion, who would be a dream War on Cars guest for such a milestone episode?

Let me know your thoughts!

@BrooklynSpoke Anne Hidalgo
@dannyman @BrooklynSpoke a thousand percent this. I have no idea how feasible it would be, but would be amazing.
@someguyjg @dannyman @BrooklynSpoke thirding Anne Hidalgo. What she's doing in Paris is incredible climate action and there's no reason every American city and town can't follow suit
@BrooklynSpoke @dannyman Yes! and/or Valérie Plante, mayor of Montreal if you haven’t had her on yet (a good opportunity to talk about the new REM light rail & Reseau Express Velo bike highway, pedestrianized streets & more)
@ajkandy @dannyman I would LOVE to get Valérie Plante on the podcast!
@BrooklynSpoke @dannyman It's pretty easy to reach out here: https://mairesse.montreal.ca/en

@BrooklynSpoke Maybe not a 100th episode kind of thing but it would be great to have an episode with deliveristas.
@BrooklynSpoke US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg

@BrooklynSpoke it took me an hour to recall her name but:

Janette Sadik Khan

The woman who closed Times Square to automobiles, iirc. I have her book and here in some unread pile.

Janette Sadik-Khan | Bloomberg Associates

Janette Sadik-Khan served as Commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation and now works with mayors to reimagine and redesign cities.

Bloomberg Associates
@dannyman @BrooklynSpoke absolutely! She was very ahead of her time, launching CitiBike and closing Broadway to cars
@BrooklynSpoke When Jeff Speck was in Carmel and we were out walking, he expressed great admiration for the podcast and the willingness to come on sometime. I think it would be a good episode, especially since he sometimes feels that cars add vibrancy to urban spaces and that'd be a great topic of debate.
@BrooklynSpoke Secretary Pete
@NoSquish @dgouldin I think the name of the podcast is keeping Sec. Pete from coming on, but my feeling is that since Fox is accusing him of waging a war on cars anyway he has no reason to not join us for an interview.

@BrooklynSpoke @NoSquish I’ve been waiting for an interviewer to point blank ask him why he won’t make it illegal to sell cars we know are deadly to pedestrians.

I’ve heard him talk about adding tech and introducing new safety ratings, but the fact is the US’s per capita fatality rates are diverging from our peers, and neither of those is the cause.

@BrooklynSpoke @dgouldin I'm sure he has a team of people pointing at the name and recommending no, but he should still do it 😁
@NoSquish @BrooklynSpoke @dgouldin I mean, I think Sec Pete would be a great guest, although I can understand why he might think the name might be a bit off-putting
@BrooklynSpoke Robert Moses
@Fuzzbizz I have to assume Robert Moses has nothing but time these days.
@BrooklynSpoke Congratulations on the first 100! Don't think I've ever heard Straphanger author Taras Grescoe @straphanger interviewed and can't get enough of @parismarx (Road to Nowhere) both are positive and enlightening. but I also want to hear @notjustbikes explain how his righteous bashing of NA cities from utopia is not gloating or intended to be depressing for someone who still lives here
@cloudhands We've had Paris and Jason of NJB on the show before, but Taras would be great. I love Straphanger.
@BrooklynSpoke clearly it’s been too long. Time to have them on again! 😜
@BrooklynSpoke the Pittsburgh edition ;)
@BrooklynSpoke I would love to share my ideas for a way forward with #MicroManufacturing of #OpenSource #MicroMobility #EV's for the easiest, quickest, cheapest change we can make to improve #Climate. Maybe not podcast worthy but I'm going to start writing about it a lot more.
@BrooklynSpoke Any number of people from Groningen. Does Max van den Berg do interviews?
@BrooklynSpoke
With apologies if you already hosted him, Donald Shoup.
@BrooklynSpoke I don't know if this would count as a milestone-level guest, but I live in New Haven, CT and there is a local composting service called Peels and Wheels that collects household compost by bicycle. Their website is pwcomposting.com

@BrooklynSpoke

Or, if not her, possible alternatives:

- Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo
- Prof Rachel Aldred
- Janette Sadik-Khan (ex-Commissioner, NYC Dept of Transportation)

@BrooklynSpoke

I'm not sure who it is, but someone who offers effective ways to counter the "that could never work here" opposition that plagues so many of us in cities that are sprawled-out; not flat; or don't enjoy year-round fair-weather conditions.

The last Copenhagenize Index featured cities that defy all the stereotypes about what makes an ideal cycle-city. Maybe there are leads there.

And: congratulations on 100! I love TWoC.

@BrooklynSpoke I realise it's a bit sport-cycling-y, but maybe someone like Jenny Graham? She's a riot, and absolutely incredible.
