In 2021 I cycled 2893km on my shitty little folding bike, so I set a 2022 goal of 3000km, which I had smashed through by September after I got a new bike in June, and I'm closing the year on 4252km.

So what's a sensible target for 2023?

#Strava wasting no time in calling me out #Cycling #BikeTooter
This is gonna get like that fucking Language Owl, isn't it?

So where have we got to at the end of the first month? 43km off the pace is OK, tbh. The raw maths says I need to do ~96km per week for the rest of 2023, but I'll do plenty of 100km+ weeks once it gets warmer and lighter

#Cycling #BikeTooter

#Strava progress, end of February: that I'm only 35km off the pace is astonishing to me, given that I lost an entire week to a work event and then being ill. The month did also include my first-ever 70km ride, however

Ahead of the Game 💪

#Cycling #BikeTooter

1000km for the year 💪

#Cycling #BikeTooter

#Strava progress, end of Q1: that I'm 84km behind is reasonable, considering how many days I've lost to foul weather and being ill. However BST is now here, and after-work #cycling has commenced, so I expect to pick up the pace substantially in April

#BikeTooter

And we're back ahead of the pace, thanks to today's 90km epic #Cycling #BikeTooter
Here we fucking go lads #Cycling #BikeTooter

The pace has picked up massively in April, with two 90km epics and plenty of after-work #cycling. I guess we'll stay well ahead over the summer

#BikeTooter

2000km of #Cycling for the year 💪

#BikeTooter

Whoa, we're halfway there

#Cycling #BikeTooter

Just got the bike back from her service, and smashed through 4000km for the year #Cycling #BikeTooter
Just went past my entire 2022 #cycling distance

And I've just smashed 5000km for the year, before the end of September (in no small part thanks the 240km I picked-up on last week's holiday in Suffolk)

Guess we're heading for 6000 now...

The Final Scores are in!

So, in 2023, I:

* cycled from Stratford to Shoeburyness
* cycled from Stratford to Canvey Island
* cycled from Stratford to Cambridge, twice
* raised £750 on the JDRF Cycle for a Cure event

@pikesley

Did you take the A-road, the ok road, that's the best?

@JuliaRez I did indeed go right past Barking, rather near Basildon, then through Hadleigh, Leigh-On-Sea, Chalkwell and Prittlewell
@pikesley
Love #cycling in #Suffolk. Quiet lanes, lovely old buildings and gently rolling hills. Just love it.
@pikesley That's a bloody good effort!
@pikesley destroying the pace! You should do what I did and take a week off work to cycle to Berlin - that would get you well over the line.
@pikesley it's much easier to get distance on slicks, on road. It's a different kind of fun, tho, and I really miss the off-road bits you do
@rgarner it's gonna be mostly roads and towpaths until the spring, anyway. Maybe I need some road wheels and tyres...
@pikesley do it. You will not regret it
@rgarner @pikesley Amd make sure you've got them inflated to proper pressure 🙂
