Originally shot in Black and White, here is the colorized version of The Nicholas Brothers in one of the GREATEST dance sequences ever performed!

From the 1943 film, “Stormy Weather,” the clip also features Cab Calloway and Orchestra playing “Jumpin’ Jive.”

Childhood prodigies, The Nicholas Brothers don’t get nearly the recognition they deserve. They were truly astonishing to behold!

@Deglassco beautiful and brilliant! And fun!
@caragraph And those acrobatics!
@Deglassco yes! I could (and have done!) watch this over and over. Thank you so much for sharing it. Merry Christmas!
@Deglassco wooooooooooooow wow wow every detail fabulous. choreography, music, costume, LIGHTING. Just awesome
@BegoniaArizona I agree! They really were perfection.
@Deglassco @erinfulmer The stairs sequence has always blown me away.
@jonpainterphoto @erinfulmer Yes, me too. It was the first take too. Unrehearsed.
@Deglassco @erinfulmer @jonpainterphoto Not true. No rehearsal would have been dangerous for them and the production crew. If you know how movies were produced then, you can see that this was filmed in quite a few separate segments. The NB were extraordinary enough without these silly and easily disproven hyperboles.
@markloundy @Deglassco @erinfulmer @jonpainterphoto Unrehearsed (in the film studio) and in one take.
@Deglassco @erinfulmer @DemocracyMatters @jonpainterphoto 1/2 I keep seeing those claims. Unless it was rehearsed, the cameras would not have been able to make the moves that they did and the non-dancing performers would not have been able to stay out of the way.
@DemocracyMatters @Deglassco @jonpainterphoto @erinfulmer 2/2 The claims of “one take” are disproved by angles that would have included cameras that had to be moved out of the way from previous shots. That the Nicolas Brothers were among the greatest performers of all time is not in doubt. But the no-rehearsal, one-take claims are literally impossible.

@Deglassco Hands down THE BEST dance number ever put on film! Stormy Weather is one of my all time favs. The great Lena Horne, Bill Robinson, Fats Waller...

Two years earlier, the Nicholas Brothers appeared in "Sun Valley Serenade" (1941) dancing with the great Dorothy Dandridge to the Chattanooga Choo Choo with the Glenn Miller Orchestra - which went on to win an Oscar for Best Song!

Even Fred Astaire admitted it, the Nicholas Brothers were The Best.

@VancityKai Thanks for sharing this. They deserve so much more recognition than they have received.
@Deglassco Pretty spectacular artistry and skill there. Hi-dee-hi ho-dee-ho!
@Deglassco I love this one. I watch it whenever I am down.

@pennyivy Yes, it was very entertaining, I watched it. Thank you for sharing.

@Deglassco

Excellent. No gravity involved. 🦅

@Deglassco I adore the Nicholas Brothers! Spell-binding dance moves that captivate me every single time I watch them. Thank you!
@MorriganResists I agree! I hate to sound old but you just don’t see this kind of entertainment anymore.
@Deglassco Thank you so much for posting this, I never ever miss a chance to watch this clip! I noticed something new (to me) - that the Nicholas brothers' stage makeup and that of Cab Callaway is likely lighter than their natural skin (and that the musicians probably wore no makeup) . Could be wrong, just an observation -
@LeslieVS1965 I think you are right. If you look at images across the spectrum of time of these artists, you can see that they were lighter in some photos more than others. Colorism was preeminent during those days and also, many of the performers, entertained primarily white guests, who put premiums on people who emulated them (hence the black men’s straightened hair).
@Deglassco Such a fabulous number in a great film!
@marylikeafox It is, isn’t it. After all these decades, it’s still entertaining.
@Deglassco They're dazzling, and I'm embarrassed to admit that I was barely aware of them. But the urge to colorize classic black and white movies baffles me. It never looks natural. Some things are best left alone, I think.
@BruceMirken Yes, I agree that colorizing can be distracting for a lot of people. But for others, it can make the subjects come alive and be much more relatable ( if it’s done well, that is). In this clip, the colorization is decent.
@Deglassco
The Nicholas Brothers were pure genius. I can watch them over and over. ❤️
@PeggyJoan Oh yes, so elegant, so confident. I love their expressions as much as their athleticism.
@Deglassco yes!! I think I rewound this scene four times the first time I watched it. The movie itself is incredible.
@StrawberrySabotage It’s very famous but the Nicholas Brothers don’t get the recognition they deserve relative to people like Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly. That’s why I posted it.
@Deglassco Criterion had a collection o their films posted of awhile back and I got to binge them, but it looks like they may not have it online any longer.
@Deglassco I absolutely feel that any time the Nicholas Brothers show up on one's timeline, one should be obligated to repost.
@bunnyjadwiga Agreed!! They definitely need more attention.
@Deglassco wow, what great clip. The Nicolas Brothers were truly the best at their craft.
@Flag59 And so poised and confident and professional!
@Deglassco everything about this is magnificent. Thanks so much for sharing the colourised version 🙏
@RonanPalmer Yes, they truly were world class professionals.
@Deglassco YESSS NICHOLAS BROTHERS ALWAYS SO AMAZING
@Deglassco I've watched this clip so many times! 😍
@Deglassco I have to agree, that’s a that’s a high bar, but their routine is truly phenomenal! It’s hard to imagine the time it would’ve taken to master it and the risks it posed — let alone possessing the skills and the stamina to perform it. Thanks for sharing it!
@waltzingfool And they were self taught!
@Deglassco All the more amazing!! Makes me want to learn more about them. They deserve more recognition.
@Deglassco Hands down my favorite era for music, entertainment, and style. 😃

@Deglassco
It's always a good time to watch this again!

The colorisation seemed kinda patchy but I liked how it drew more attention to the orchestra performers and audience members in ways that I hadn't previously noticed with the black & white version.

So much joy on the screen! ❤️❤️

@Deglassco You just made my Christmas Eve! I used to wait till my parents went to sleep and then sneak out to watch old movies on the television. This was in the long long ago. I adored Cab Calloway. BTW Stormy Weather should be required watching for everyone.
@Judibleyz Whst s wonderful thing to say. Thank you.
