@mookie another relevant point here for regular users is that the federated timeline isn’t “everything posted on every server”, it’s only “everything posted by people on other servers that people on your server follow”.
Big difference, and important for server choice. If you want to be exposed to broad content, not limited by your social bubble, then you should join a large server with a broad theme. Otherwise your federated timeline won’t differ much from your local timeline.
