"Actually, studies have shown that riders using pedal-assists—a type of e-bike that amplifies your pedal power but does not take over entirely—get more exercise than those on regular bikes, because they cycle longer and more frequently.”

Hell on Two Wheels, Until the E-Bike’s Battery Runs Out

In 2020, Americans bought more than twice as many electric bikes as electric cars. Patricia Marx test-drove a fleet of them, including a Vado SL and a Gocycle G4i.

@TheWarOnCars I feel this study is inaccurate. who were the subjects? If I used pedal assist, I would get way less exercise
@TheWarOnCars @darylcognito the premise is that E assist changes when, where and how we ride. If you simply replace your analog bike with a e bike for you normal riding pattern then certainly your calorie expense would go down. If instead an e bike meant you rode more often, over longer distances and replaced car trips then yes your calorie expense rises. That’s been my experience even with the e bike being less than a quarter of my rides.
