@godpod When approaching individuals about this, I'd recommend endorsing a particular server alongside the fediverse!
When talking to large groups things are harder...
I just picked one pretty randomly. Started by finding a few people I knew from the other place. Went through their follows and found more of my old follows at the bird site. And now I have a great feed and zero bullshit.
It really is that easy folks.
@alexwagner @godpod
Yeah, along with the caveat that they can always switch servers in the future without losing the connections they've sissy made.
I've started just pointing people at the one I joined.
@godpod Ugh. Kill me. SMH doesn't do my emotional response to that sentiment justice.
This goes back to my argument from November with someone with a rose in their twitter name who was like "not interested in that libertarian nonsense"
@godpod most people just use social media to argue about silly topics (such as politics...) or minding other people's business.
Many people are just "reactive", making a choice is too hard a choice for them.

I tried to make the same point about how it was a pain to pick an email server, too confusing, ultimately doomed to fail.
Sorry, the point could not be connected.
@godpod The one thing that could be improved is the permission prompt on the mobile app. Make it clear it is asking for permission for the Mastodon account. The first time I read it I thought it was asking for permission for the phone's pictures and messages.
Other than that getting started with the Mastodon mobile app is super easy.
@godpod
Very techie people are on multiple servers and some even have a tick for one, yet not for the account from which they post.
Even they had to take multiple runs at it.
Incoming savvy users who’ve never looked at mastodon might first wonder why they have to choose, then they start to understand that they don’t want to pick a server that ain’t all that, nor overburden some poor server admin who didn’t expect such a workload, then they learn about mastodon.social, but get rejected.
They look at other servers and begin to realise they don’t want to pick a server they don’t identify with or maybe they even have a bit of imposter syndrome about it.
Or perhaps that was just me…
Dearest Lord, my savory, I beseech you to please make Kraft Fluff in Chocolate and Strawberry (artificially flavored)™ as well as traditional. Also, please be gentle to Elon. If you give him pestilence, he'll think himself Job. And finally, please make pizza and beer free to all Mastodon devs. A-men!
@godpod Or even worse. I have neighbors who are tech workers on a visa. They are following the misery Musk is unleashing on the Twitter workers and that could affect them at any moment. Their current hot topic? Oooh Teslas are coming down in price! Time to buy!
Way to go, throwing your brother (and possibly yourself) under the bus for a shitty car.
@godpod BOYCOTT Everything the #EmeraldMuskRat touches!
Beyond that, if donald j. #TraitorTrump & elon #MuskRat are what RICH People have to offer,, it's far past time to Readjust Wealth
