- The Saudi Arabians also don’t like flight tracking, they’ve contacted ADSBExchange to request to be blocked and offered money. They’ve also expressed there concerns to the ICAO.

Based off of facts I see here and other information I can not share as of yet. I am very confident at the very least the Saudis are involved with future developments and possibly Musk too. Given the stance we know Elon has on my tracking I wouldn’t be surprised.

If you had owned something that people didn’t like (like a network of thousands of aircraft tracking receivers) and someone offered you millions of dollars for it you would take the deal wouldn’t you!?!? Only a mater of time…

I’d like to think not, that I’d stand up for the values I believe in. But it’s hard to fault others, especially ones who don’t have day jobs paying as well, for making that choice.

@peatbog @JxckS Every ATC facility has its own ADS-B gear. Anyone with a few dozen bucks in their pocket can set up their own receiver. ADSBExchange just aggregates the data from individually owned receivers.

@peatbog @JxckS AIUI, ADS-B Exchange does not own the receivers -- it's just a network of receivers owned by individuals. If some dictator buys ADS-B Exchange... they get the historical database and nothing else.

@JxckS After 9/11 the tracking of any aircraft is a matter of not only national security but public record accessible. Saudi doesn't want to be tracked because they should be considered a terrorist country, they didn't count on those flights on 9/11 being trackable.

I’m curious what the actual proposals are that would keep ADSB working in a way that’s useful for air traffic management without exposing the (supposed) privacy and security risks mentioned in that abstract. I would have thought open broadcast by all aircraft of this data is what makes it of use at all for air traffic purposes.

The upshot being that those with money can demand zero tracking 100% of the time because, well they have money and must be "good" people. The rest of us are all "bad" people that must have big brother 110% of the time

A plane goes missing and there is no tracking, there will be more than an outcry.
