Exclusive: Twitter removes suicide prevention feature, says it's under revamp

Twitter Inc removed a feature in the past few days that promoted suicide prevention hotlines and other safety resources to users looking up certain content, according to two people familiar with the matter who said it was ordered by new owner Elon Musk.

@taylorlorenz doing holiday season when it’s most difficult period for people with depression.
@denisewu @taylorlorenz hey Denise lol. We were doing “draw” for the first reply
@taylorlorenz and now it’s back (supposedly) but it’s a walk-back in order to remove the Covid-19 notifications, I believe
@taylorlorenz Really considerate to do that especially around the Christmas holidays.
@taylorlorenz Reuters says it was just restored...
@taylorlorenz He is really looking for a place in hell, dammit.
@Albert_Hubble @taylorlorenz That one was reserved by Jenna Ellis when she complained about Lizzo playing James Madison's crystal flute...
@taylorlorenz I heard he walked it back but not without being heavily criticized. He needs to get better people around him to help him make better decisions. I feared what would have happened if he didn’t reverse this decision.
@Elledeeay @taylorlorenz He won't listen to them. He is now so determined to "own the libs" that he doesn't care if it costs him $125 billion...
@toxtethogrady @taylorlorenz True. He won’t listen. He really believes he’s saving Twitter by “owning the libs.” Shame though.
@taylorlorenz
Maybe we can get him to kill himself now

@JohnDongle @taylorlorenz

Pity he doesn't have a poll on that. On the other hand he's already proved he lies on that score.

Twitter restores suicide prevention feature after Reuters report

Twitter Inc has restored a feature that promotes suicide prevention hotlines and other safety resources to users looking up certain content, after coming under pressure from some users and consumer safety groups over its removal.

@taylorlorenz good timing too. Just before Christmas ☹️
@taylorlorenz Happy Christmas from The Mad King of the Bird Site
@taylorlorenz fake news
@stockulus @taylorlorenz It was true, then walked back after it made the news. Stop that.
@stockulus @taylorlorenz Fact. He removed it. Fact. Once it became public and he was criticized, he reversed his decision. There is nothing “fake” about it. Reality and facts are your friend. Try joining the rest of us here. I get that you don’t like your idol being criticized, but he’s made a disaster of Twitter and seems completely clueless. Stop defending his awful decision making.
@KristiL @taylorlorenz I am totally fine with criticizing Musk. I really think he got dangerous. He behaves like a small ashole child. Just this Reuters news seems not accurate and is clickbait.
@taylorlorenz of course he does. He’s called #SpaceKaren for a reason.
@taylorlorenz good God. The dude is just actively pursuing harm at this point.
@taylorlorenz At the time of year when some people are experiencing loss, is not the time to be doing this. Or ever. He doesn’t have an ounce of empathy in his whole body.
Twitter restores suicide-prevention hotline feature after outcry

Top official confirms feature was removed but only temporarily, following Reuters report that prompted criticism of Elon Musk

The Guardian
@taylorlorenz it's only temporary. Stop trying to make this another reason to hate people.
@TrueScientist @taylorlorenz it’s only temporary because people called him out on it and forced his hand.
@taylorlorenz
Twitter gibts noch? Ich hab das ja jetzt mal 5-6 Tage nicht mehr so verfolgt.
@taylorlorenz Why, for what reason/purpose would he want to do that. Is he just trying to make twitter crash and burn at this point. Did he just buy it to read grimes' DMs?
@taylorlorenz What the hell?! This guy is seriously putting real people in jeopardy doing that! Why the hell is he removing lifesaving information? (Not the posted reason, but the real one...)
@taylorlorenz My first tought was, oh...on some point great. Don't get me wrong, its nothing bad on that feature. But on the other hand its in my eyes a bit akward to expect (and even lay your trust) in a stock holder company to be responsible for such personal things.
@taylorlorenz He just called this a lie. Said the feature is still active.
@taylorlorenz Is there such a feature here on Mastadoon?
@taylorlorenz i was going to say something nasty directed at elon but he’s not worth it and i am not as nasty or as inconsiderate
@taylorlorenz Does this now mean that Elon Musk will soon kill himself and no one will stop him? I hope so, it would be better off without a mentally ill asshole!
@taylorlorenz he is looking for any attention and your are giving him what he is looking for. How about we stop “Elon musk did this and that! “
@taylorlorenz Is there any connection between having these features and people actually accessing useful resources or support? Ive only ever experienced these types of things used as tools for harrassment and censorship of uncomfortable content.
