TwitterEx-Pat. Here for news, democracy & to lower my blood-pressure through reasoned discourse peppered with the occasional shit post or anonymous hot-take.
Will block anybody who annoys me.
Moderate Dem. Cat lover. Ukraine supporter. I also take the pandemic seriously and think it’s immoral to recklessly get other people sick.

Interested in #politics, #Ukraine, #Covid19, #democracy, #news, #cats, #history, #feminism

Chaos in the House is not a defect, it is the entire point for Republicans.

They want to prove that #democracy doesn’t work, so let’s give #fascism a try!

Past a certain point the GOP’s inability to elect a Speaker looks like a deliberate refusal to elect a Speaker.

The Speaker of the House is in charge of making sure legislation gets passed.

Jim Jordan has never gotten a single piece of legislation passed in 16 years in Congress.

If you need a plumber to fix your sink, don’t you want to hire someone who actually knows how to fix a sink?

#JakeTapper is reporting that Rep #DonBacon - a no vote on #JimJordan - has had vaguely threatening text messages sent to his wife’s personal phone urging her to get her husband to change his vote.

I think life under a second #Trump presidency would look this bad and then worse, maybe much worse.

@wendinoakland Because the majority of users use the default clients. And since the onboarding is now pushing them to the big masto servers, which lacks QP, they are immediately annoyed and confused by why they are not there. And it’s not a good strategy to say “yeah, it sucks, but you can go find some 3rd party platform or apps that do it for you.” To a journalist used to Twitter, that’s sort of a car dealer telling a prospect: “Oh, you want wheels? Sorry, no. But you can google for some!
@hakirsch in my opinion it was always an overhyped issue that was largely made up by well intentioned people who exaggerated the threat while looking for ways to declare the fediverse different from and “safer” than the commercial platforms. At least one academic researched it and found no validity to the “pile-on catalyst” theory. And Masto founder Eugen felt they led to less interesting chat (or something like that). Most advocates feel the opposite is true.
@NanBP I am still somewhat confused about why @Gargron and others don’t make them a very high priority. The window is closing to ever get those people back. And I don’t want to see “Wouldn’t do quoted posts” on Mastodon’s epitaph.
@shoq yes, in all honesty, I struggle daily without access to quoted reposts and one reason why I’m trying out BlueSky
I just had a very dispirited convo with a very well known pundit who told me why she and most of her friends are no longer interested in Mastodon. I was going to post it, but I think it’s just too harshly worded. People would get their backs up from the language alone. It’s going to be a challenge to get such people back, if we ever do. It will never happen without quoted posts, imo. I think that’s the minimum gesture that will have to be made for them to ever take this seriously again.
