Wind has just gone crazy! And the power just went out. If I sit in the exact right spot, I can get an LTE signal. We live in a rural location with a hill that blocks the distant cell tower.
We actually got a call through to the power company (usually we have to drive but the blizzard seems to have made the cell signal stronger) and are now on the "list" of outages.

From FB posts, it looks like all of Cook County might not have power. I haven't seen any posts from the west side, yet, but everything from Cascade River, up the Gunflint and to Grand Portage is out. That likely means that the only main line that comes into the county is down.
Luckily, the fiber optic cable didn't go with it. When that goes out we lose 911.
@ryaninmpls are they saying that took out the power? If so, we might get it back sooner than later.
We just realized that we recycled our last battery powered radio. That wasn't smart.
@bryanhansel had issues replying earlier… not specifically but sounds like many many trees were lost.
Saw you got it back and lost it again… how do things look now?

That wind is battering us right across from you on the Keweenaw too. Massive Lake Superior waves are building up the shore ice and throwing chunks of ice far and wide.

I think so, though it’s hard to gage the actual height. And of course all the buoys have long been pulled for the winter (so they don’t end up on the beach!).
The biggest waves are forecast for further east.
