I've been using this #tool for years, but I think more people should know about it.

It makes it easy to find a #LaTeX symbol in a few seconds!

Also it's open source:

and there is sample data to train from for #AI and #ML researchers:

@solalnathan This comes in really handy for me about twice a year, which is juuust often enough that I can remember what it's called and go use it.

@cappallo pretty much agree; but I remember going through list like these
https://oeis.org/wiki/List_of_LaTeX_mathematical_symbols
or
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/97/Comprehensive_LaTeX_Symbol_List.pdf
until a knew a few hundred of them by heart.

Detexify would probably have saved me a bunch of time if I knew it in my early LaTeX life.

@solalnathan pretty useful, used it a lot

@solalnathan

This is extremely useful, thank you!

@solalnathan @pluhmen wow thats cool. If I only had known that writing my thesis .
@solalnathan want the same for Unicode

@msokolov It does exist (and its linked from the Detexify FAQ btw).
Maybe i'll make a nice webm post like this one for this unicode tool :)

http://shapecatcher.com/

Shapecatcher: Draw the Unicode character you want!

You need to find a specific Unicode character? With Shapecatcher.com you can search through a database of characters by simply drawing your character into a box. It can find the most similar character shapes for your drawing.

Attached: 1 image People seemed to love yesterday's #tool and asked for a #Unicode version it. Here it is! 🔗 https://shapecatcher.com It does not work as well imo, but it's good enough. Other issues are that it does not seem to be actively maintained since 2012 and it is not libre and open source. The dataset does not (understandably) cover the whole Unicode standard. #AI #ML

@solalnathan also been using the tool for years. Saved me so much time scrolling through documentations.
@solalnathan schon gesehen? @TeXhackse

@solalnathan wow, this is super useful!
@solalnathan cool, Need that for Unicode Glyphs
BTW, no CC (Creative Commons License Circle?) in TeX?
@eckes check out my last post for the Unicode glyph equivalent! Already got you covered :)
@solalnathan found it (shapecatcher.com) strange, had to go to your original profile page Not the federated feed
@solalnathan Neat! I've been using this, which is essentially the same thing but only does unicode... http://shapecatcher.com/

@kirch I've posted about it earlier today: https://sigmoid.social/@solalnathan/109449977421049615

Don't hesitate to share it ;)

@solalnathan oh man i want someone to fork glyphfinder to add support for this

@solalnathan Ooh, that's great! If I can add something, this looks like a TeX version of Shapecatcher (http://shapecatcher.com/), which is the same sort of thing but for unicode symbols! perfect for if you want to put a ☉ or a ⍒ or something in your posts and don't want to look up exactly what the thing is called to find it in the character map

@solalnathan You're absolutely right! We have been recommending Detexify in our LaTeX workshops for years now. Great resource.
@solalnathan can I download it for offline use?
@solalnathan Used this a lot in uni!
@solalnathan There was also https://github.com/MartinThoma/write-math (that used to be hosted at http://write-math.com/ ) which was *very* good but seems to be discontinued, unfortunately.

@clementaubert looks nice. If it's good I will probably host one myself, it's a shame the website is offline...
@solalnathan Start from this fork ( https://github.com/TrellixVulnTeam/write-math_SIIL ), maybe? It was *really* nice the way I remember it, better than detexify (at the time).

@solalnathan That's awesome, thanks for sharing.

It is very cool.

What about searching for how to make different kinds of stacked forms like matrices, or case statements?

@solalnathan

@solalnathan this is so cool! Thanks for sharing
@solalnathan ditto. Absolutely wonderful
