Better late than never! Might just do this daily and do extra posts with likes.

1. I don't remember the store, but in 1999 I bought a second hand #MERP 2E core rulebook in Springfield, MO which is where I attended university for a year before leaving the US for the UK. I'd played a ton of #StarWarsD6 4ish years before, but this was the first game I bought myself. Oh, and I never played it! 😅

#GTKM #TTRPG

Well that was quick, so let's continue!

2. My favourite #TTRPG game world is probably Warhammer's Old World, but specifically as seen in #WFRP and not the wargame. I love the cheekiness of the silly German names and the dark fantasy tropes with a touch of Renaissance tech. It's a world I will always want to play in, regardless of system. So far I've played or run it in all 4 official editions, plus Mythras, Best Left Buried, and my own Year Zero Mini.

3. I don't really play many published #TTRPG adventures, so I'm struggling to think of a published NPC that left a lasting impression on me. But I can certainly point to an unpublished one!

Ventillion from Carrion Company (a #WFRP 4e actual play campaign on the @toatabletop / Mud & Blood podcast) is hands down the most memorable NPC I've encountered as a player. If you've not listened to this campaign, you're seriously missing out! Here's the first episode:

4. The first #TTRPG I bought from its creator would probably be... Hmmm... Probably #Hypertellurians from @Mottokrosh at the 2019 UK Games Expo. Great game from a great guy!

#GTKM

5. The #TTRPG I've played the most is also my first TTRPG: WEG's #StarWarsD6. My friends and I played it nonstop for the better part of a year when I was a teenager. My second most played is probably #EdgeOfTheEmpire, which I ran and played a ton of when it came out. And yeah, I'm a big Star Wars nerd.

#GTKM

6. My favourite #TTRPG PC is probably Kurt from the Carrion Company (that campaign on @toatabletop I mentioned back in post #3). He was a bumbling young peasant in a mercenary company, desperate for acceptance who ultimately met a tragic end. I find #WFRP is best experienced with tragedy, not heroism.

#GTKM

7. The #TTRPG I've spent the most money on and never played is #Runequest. I bought into the newest edition pretty heavily, but it's a daunting beast to bring to the table. Also, it's a lot crunchier than I tend to like. That said, this year I was lucky enough to have played a one-shot of #QuestWorlds (neé HeroQuest), so I have at least dabbled my toes in #Glorantha!

#GTKM

OK, I know I said I was done for today, but I keep getting likes, so I'll go a bit longer...

8. My favourite #TTRPG for its visuals is hands down #MörkBorg. I do a bit of graphic design, layout, and typography myself, and MB blew my mind when I first got my grubby hands on it. It's not a game I particularly enjoy mechanically, but as a piece of art it is second to none.

9. My favourite #TTRPG for its writing is... Hmmm, that's a hard one as there are so many. But rather than go with some obvious contenders, I think I'll give a shout out to #AlasForTheAwfulSea by Hayley Gordon and Vee Hendro from #Storybrewers. It's probably the first #PBTA game I liked, and it's very well written. It's also a great game with tools you can bring into any game, and you should absolutely check it out:

Alas for the Awful Sea

Alas for the Awful Sea is a story focused roleplaying game set in a a grim world of suspicion, sadness, and desperation. A roleplaying game of myth, mystery, and the complexity of the human heart.

10. I love #SoloRoleplaying and while I own a ton of journalling games, I've actually never played one as I tend to lean to the more GM Emulation side of the solo experience.

Any suggestions for which one to try first?

The two which are highest on my list are #TheWretched by Chris Bissette (@loottheroom) and #ThousandYearOldVampire by Tim Hutchings.

11. Have I played a hex crawl #TTRPG? Yep. I've run and played a ton of #ForbiddenLands. I'm also the author of the upcoming official solo rules for it, which hopefully will be released to the public in the next few weeks / months. It's a fun old school fantasy game with a big emphasis on survival and exploration, which it delivers in spades.

12. No, I have not designed a #TTRPG dungeon, but I have designed the #Pitchfork village creator which is so much better than a dungeon, and which I'm rather proud of. It's only $2 on Itch, but there are 100 fresh community copies, so go fill your boots!

13. I have never LARPed. Toying with the idea of being an NPC next year, as the world's largest LARPing event (ConQuest of Mythodea) is 15 minutes down the road from my house.

14. Favourite object one of my PCs has owned? Dunno, this is kind of an odd question to me. That Ford Escort my teenager PC had in #MonsterOfTheWeek was pretty useful I guess. As was the camera and monopod my PC had in #KULT.

#TTRPG #GTKM

15. One of the most memorable relationships one of my characters has had is the relationship my Road Warden PC (Horst) had with @Boganova's Bandit (Walter) in season 2 of Carrion Company on @toatabletop. It got so tense that Liam was cursing at me IRL after the recording stopped. 😅

16. I certainly do collect all games by a certain designer: #FreeLeague and specifically their #YearZeroEngine. I'm a huge fan boy.

I'm also a huge #GamesOmnivorous fan and have nearly all of their games. Most prized is my #Mausritter box set by @losing

17. The #TTRPG I'm most looking forward to in 2023 is my own #StilettoRPG, which should be crowdfunding next year. If I have to pick a game that I'm not involved in, it would be a toss-up between #BladeRunnerRPG, #TheWalkingDeadRPG, and #Mothership 1e.

#GTKM

18. I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but the most memorable #TTRPG monster / villain I've experienced was Pigiron (a Razorgor) in the #WFRP 4E Carrion Company actual play campaign on the @toatabletop (then Mud & Blood) podcast. Seriously, if you like WFRP or dark fantasy, you should check it out; hands down the best campaign I've been involved in, and it's still going. I was a player in the first 2 seasons. Link is in post #3 of this 🧵

19. "Ever experience bleed" - I have no idea what this means... Can anyone enlighten me?

#GTKM #TTRPG

19. (cont'd) OK, so now that I know what #TTRPG "bleed" is, I can say that I only rarely experience bleed. But it does happen with a great GM and a great story. It's also much more likely to happen in a duet (one-GM-one-player) game, IME.

On the subject, John Harper's famous "immersion is bullshit" hot take is something I disagree with. I think immersion is a subjective thing, and not a one-size-fits-all phenomenon. Oh, and I don't want to cast shade on @johnharper - he's a great guy.

#GTKM

20. OK, let's finish this thing off by talking about how I got into roleplaying. I've already touched on my first #TTRPG in post #5, but allow me to expand.

As a teenager in 1995, a friend brought the WEG #StarWarsD6 core rulebook round my house and within a week my group of friends were pretty much non-stop playing in the Star Wars universe. This lasted until the friend moved away about a year later.

After than, I didn't play another TTRPG for 16 years... 1/2

#GTKM

20. (cont'd) It was 2011 and I had graduated from uni a few years before. I had a boring job and started recalling those fun days playing Star Wars. So I had a look online and to my delight discovered there was a large #TTRPG Meetup group in my area!

I had a rocky start finding a group, but eventually settled on a gaggle of nerds who are now some of my closest friends.

The rest is history.

And with that, my #GTKM journey is complete. Thanks for following! 2/2
