Journalist profiles on the Washington Post's website can now include Mastodon links. Here's what it looks like: https://www.washingtonpost.com/people/drew-harwell/
The Post is also working on some other cool Mastodon stuff. Stay tuned. Here's a running list of Post journalists on Mastodon so far: https://mastodon.social/@drewharwell/109551525081139777
@drewharwell it's annoying that Post is the name of a social network now because it took me a minute to realize that's not what you were talking about
@drewharwell a Mastodon instance hosted by WaPo 👀

@drewharwell

Consider posting the handles in importable format.

It's too much work for me to do them individually.

You could post them in full, or even link a csv that's importable...

@isucceed @drewharwell yeah the direct links make following from a different instance way too cumbersome
@isucceed @drewharwell i see what you mean, without the full domain attached (at the original), copying and pasting just handle won't generate a click-friendly list. i tried but deleted it.

@isucceed @drewharwell

Trying again—by going into view source mode you can copy and paste handle/domain in its entirety.

REPRINT: John, I believe if you copy and paste any folks' handle(+domain), directly into a reply, you will generate a click-friendly print (for any instance).

This might exist elsewhere, but for whoever wishes it, here you go.. (from @drewharwell re: Wapo folks)

I think that "view source" is the trick. Don't know why I didn't think of it!

I captured, and will test an import from it tomorrow.

Thank you.
Stay well & Merry Christmas

@isucceed ☺️
Merry Christmas, John! 🎄❄️☃️
@drewharwell I really hope News orgs start their own servers/instances. They need control.
@drewharwell Fantastic! Glad to hear it … we need to band together to push back against Evil Elmo.
@drewharwell very happy to hear this. Big news orgs need to take control of their social media.

@drewharwell

Did you see the poll I ran here literally 24 hours before the Thursday night bans?

The poll literally became irrelevant over night. Wapo will be but the first of many.

@drewharwell One you have missed. Karen Tumulty @ktumulty
@drewharwell will Dave and the Tik Tok team join?
@drewharwell Very Nice! I've been looking for the last several days, on several profiles.
@drewharwell Cool! You may want to remove and then re-do your WashPo profile link, that should give it a green checkmark!
Edit: That was bad wording. I meant, go to your Mastodon profile, remove the washington post link, save, put it back in and save again. That will trigger the checkmark validation.
@drewharwell hope it’s the start of a trend!
@drewharwell Wow, nice 👍. Shouldn't the WaPo run their own instance?
@drewharwell More entities should be offering this. Maybe preferred social outlets should be a system setting. CC @applesupport
@drewharwell The new Era is here! What an addition.
@drewharwell this is awesome. Hope other news outlets big and small take note.
@drewharwell this is definitely the kind of industry adoption that will be needed to get things to the next level. Cool to see WaPo moving this quickly on it
@drewharwell Cool but why not @[email protected] ? You can run your own instance 😉
@jan @drewharwell less work if drew ever changes jobs?
@jan @drewharwell someone commented that having your employer own your history isn’t best. That tracks.
@whattamess @drewharwell Sure but with some clicks you can move with your profile to another instance.
@jan @whattamess @[email protected] hard to perform those clicks if you're fired and no longer have access. That said, it's not a bad idea to have multiple profiles, especially if one is work-related
@drewharwell to me, this looks huge. a nice exit ramp for the next time elon goes on a journalist-banning spree.

@drewharwell One step at a time.

I look forward to the day when WaPo adds a Mastodon icon to share stories...and removes the Twitter icon.

@drewharwell Great news. I would personally recommend that you get verified if you are going to have this link on your author page. If you need help: https://mashable.com/article/how-to-get-verified-mastodon
Can you get verified on Mastodon? What to know.

And will it cost $8, as Elon Musk's blue Twitter checkmark now does?

Mashable
@drewharwell Great first step. I think they should create their own account next. On a separate topic, as Masto gets more popular, I wonder how it'll deal with spam, bots, and neo-Nazi accounts - something that Twitter is struggling with.
@drewharwell ...that's a massive step forward. Great decision.
@drewharwell
in the "what have you done for me LATELY?" reply guy style: would be useful for them to also carry mastodon verification meta-data.
@drewharwell Great start! When will they add it to share article links?
@drewharwell ahead of the curve!
@mimsical Simple implementation and would look nice on that clean WSJ author-profile white ...

@drewharwell seriously gonna bring this up

I forgot who said it but every media organization should probably be running their own mastodon server, already

@mimsical @drewharwell Any chance they can put a 'rel="me" ' in the HTML of that link, so that the Washington Post (... and the WSJ..?) is visibly verifying their journalists (in a manner controlled by the institutions) through that link?
@drewharwell Great! Looking forward to many of your colleagues joining and using Mastoodon very soon if they haven't yet.
@drewharwell kinda looks like a button for ordering a happy meal but still cool. Did they consider the proposed Fediverse logo? https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fediverse_logo_proposal.svg
File:Fediverse logo proposal.svg - Wikimedia Commons

@drewharwell
@jeremybowers nice! and I see it includes the rel=me required for it to show up as green verified - you may need to edit and re-save your mastodon profile for it to re-check
@drewharwell it’s awesome to this type of adoption!
@drewharwell I love it! Greatest appreciation to all of you, as always ❤️t
@drewharwell I think this is really going to start driving more people here. Exciting to see this. Biggest thing IMO is bringing awareness to general public and making it easy to follow users on the different servers.
@drewharwell
Very important to start normalizing Mastodon (and other social media) to lessen the power of the Birdsite.

@drewharwell

This is a great step forward! Leading by example!
