I think my iPad wants me to go to Iceland again, as it is continuously featuring pictures of Iceland*. 🤗 💙💚🧡💜

😇

*yes, I know that half of the pictures on my iPad are from Iceland, and also understand the difference between correlation and causation, also that the iPad is without any feeling, but apart from that, it is still true…

NB: Hobo moniker tags are a rathole you can spend a lot of time going down. I highly recommend the somewhat obscure documentary "Who Is Bozo Texino", which I recently noticed is currently up on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSqMAADNKA8

My taxi driver played me all the music he’d generated with AI, narrating each song. He was very proud of how “original” it was because of his elaborate prompting like “epic goth guitar battle” and so on. He stopped short, though, because he didn’t want to give away his “secret recipe.” It was a long, excruciating ride.

Energy consumption goes up and down throughout the day, but the "base load" is the minimum amount, even at the lowest point in the day. So nuclear power is good for providing this "base" because it's consistent and always running.

The issue is that renewables sometimes output so much electricity that, especially when it's sunny, the grid makes *way* too much electricity. The electricity consumption of the grid minus renewables is called the "residual load", and it very very often goes NEGATIVE.

I'm worried about AI psychosis. Specifically, I'm worried about the psychosis that makes "capital allocators" spend *$1.4T* on the money-losingest technology in human history, in pursuit of a bizarre fantasy that if we teach the word-guessing program enough words, it will take all the jobs.
