Republicans now warning that releasing Trump’s tax returns could mean releasing Supreme Court justices’ tax returns.

Exactly. For example, Americans deserve to know who paid off Brett Kavanaugh’s $92,000 country club balance, $200,000 in credit card debt, and $1,200,000 mortgage.

@tristansnell
Yup. I don't really see the need for a warning there.
@SeeSomethingSaySomething @tristansnell it’s their not so subtle warning to SCOTUS to try to block this
@cryssibentlage @SeeSomethingSaySomething @tristansnell I just signed up for this after getting blocked by Elon for tweeting at him what a fraud he was. He called this “harrassment”. I used twitter for a real-time source for news, following Rupar, Tristan etc, but half of my follows were for sports. I’m wondering if anyone can give me tips on how to find the major sports accts on here bc I couldn’t even find ESPN, so idk where to start.Sorry to bother-if any1 can help

@JaylenDavis unfortunately I'm not sure if there are any major sports accounts on here yet. Mastodon is still gaining traction—and will probably continue to, as long as Twitter remains in the shape that it's in—but a lot of mainstream accounts might not be here at this point.

The one thing you can do is follow hashtags as though they were specific accounts, so you can see what other users here are saying about a particular event. I realize that's probably not what you're looking for though 🙁

@csilverman you replying was good enough for me and I thank you for those words. I’ll hang in there in the hopes that democracy and real information will succeed over the cesspool he now commands over. I appreciate your reply and happy holidays to you and yours.
@JaylenDavis you too! And yeah, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Twitter, but I don't know if I'd go back even if things got better—I was getting really irritated by the increasing lack of control over what showed up in my feed and notifications. I'm more optimistic about the Mastodon approach to things, but I guess we'll see.
@tristansnell Sounds good to me. I'd like to see Justice Thomas' returns too. I bet he and Ginny have things to hide. 👀
@lisabunntx @tristansnell Thomas might just decide to retire instead, but you know that would be just fine
@tristansnell Probably by PJ and Squee, aren’t they the scapegoats for everything?

@tristansnell
Make them all release their tax returns, let the cards fall where they may

No quarter for the corrupt

@JDN5IX @tristansnell especially the Supreme Court We gotta find out who paid off Kavanaugh
@RADC @tristansnell
My guess is the name rhymes with Koch, but that’s just a WAG
@tristansnell they're threatening us with a good time.
@tristansnell I am totally fine with Supreme Court Justices having to release their tax returns.
@tristansnell So, Wheel of Fortune style, "Person", 7x3 blanks. My letter is "L". I'd like to solve the puzzle. "MamaSezBaba" ? No, that's not it. "Leonard Leo" says the guest host ?
@tristansnell Yep. Just do it already. Kavanaugh is totally corrupt. We pay his salary so we deserve to know.
@tristansnell I seriously do not understand why the GQP thought that line of bullshit would make anyone but them nervous.
@tristansnell Was it the person who gave Santos millions in the last two years to appear successful and win the Long Island seat?
@tristansnell Should any public official’s income information be secret?
@tristansnell "Please don't throw me in that briar patch" the rest of the country said.
@tristansnell sounds like a threat to the judges to issue a stay against it's release? Wow
@tristansnell Releasing tax returns is normal. Because not being a tax cheat is normal. For pres candidates.
@tristansnell 100% agree. Should happen. Needs to happen. SC is compromised.
@tristansnell I *so* want to know who bought this SC Justice.
@tristansnell
awesome, release them all…. 3.. I’m pretty certain will be pretty much without issue… it’s the other 6.. they will be a bit afraid…
@tristansnell The warning is to the Supremes, not to the public. They want them to intercede to protect their own interests
@tristansnell Frankly, Presidential and Supreme Court tax records should be transparent and released.

@tristansnell

@tristansnell You're assuming he paid taxes on that.
@tristansnell first time most Americans will want to read tax returns.
@tristansnell We won't tell Republicans that their Federalist-influenced Court now has lower approval than President Biden. And that's even with Biden still well below 50...
@tristansnell @avic Oh no, the consequences of one’s actions!

@tristansnell That's a warning? 🤣

To me it'd be more like a neighbor stopping by to give me a Butternut cake for the holidays.

@tristansnell except none of that info would be in an income tax return.
@tristansnell It sounds to be like the GOP is threatening SCOTUS. Block this or else?
@tristansnell i just don't see a down side from that argument.

@tristansnell

They are not making the victorious point they think they are. Every day Americans should feel comfortable knowing their private financial documents remain private. But those who accept senior US Government positions also relinquish their rights to full financial privacy, for the health of the government and the people who elect and employ them.

@tristansnell
It really is an odd "warning." Yes. release them. Show us that they're the virtuous people you claim they are.

@tristansnell

I’m good with it.
Congressmen can ante up too!

@tristansnell I'd love to require ALL branches of government to have their tax records -required by law- to be held in archive and reviewable, much as is done in the Nordics.
@tristansnell I feel like this is a low bar for anyone who holds these sort of offices. It should be required of all of them.
Here's the truth about Brett Kavanaugh's finances

No, liberals, the Koch brothers don't own him.

Mother Jones
@tristansnell (it was probably just his parents...)
@tristansnell
Still a mystery who paid ?
@tristansnell Once again, they try to scare Americans by threatening them with something beneficial in a functional democracy.
@tristansnell release them! It’s not the flex they think it is.
