โญ๏ธ or ๐Ÿš€ this post to see if my server breaks!
Push Notification VM doesnโ€™t give a โ€”โ€”!
At least this is neat. Wonder if I can collate them somehow in the future.
@paul Look, itโ€™s me!
@karim @paul ...and me! ๐Ÿ˜‚
@stokes @paul Well, that just tested my notifications, so awesome!
@paul would be nice to be able to spot a *very* busy timeline and give option to only alert to a certain cadence
@paul the amount of time that was put into this at the other app would boggle most (non-dev's) minds
@paul wonder if โ€œthread-idโ€ will have iOS more aggressively group notifications for the same item?
@khaost maybe, not sure if Iโ€™m looking in the wrong place but didnโ€™t seem like a lot of that stuff was well documented. Really need a best practices for this stuff.
@paul LOVE this notification style with the emojis. Big ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
@paul How can you get those custom avatars for notifications? Are they in the docs?
@paul interesting to see my old profile picture in the notif. Your instance must not have fetched an update yet?
@paul hey look it didnโ€™t break yet ๐Ÿฅณ
@paul Take advantage of the live activities function ?
@paul do not disturb as it was intended to work ๐Ÿ™ƒ
@paul live activity for a single post showing likes/boosts for a certain period of time?
@paul thatโ€™s awesome!
@paul iOS 16s cask/rotary animation looks so good here with the notifications coming in.
@paul Working great over here! This has been fun; thanks again for letting us be a part of the process. :)
@paul Oh please oh please collate them if you can. Tusker does that and itโ€™s a godsend if you have a post thatโ€™s even a little bit viral.
@paul Seems like it could be a possible Live Activity a user could turn on when they expect a lot of engagement for a period of time.
@paul ๐Ÿš€โญ๐Ÿ’ฅ
@paul wait - I only now understand push notification servers are just run by developers themselves (I thought it was an Apple service)
@mdbraber @paul Appleโ€™s service delivers the notifications to the devices, but app developers have to build services to send app-specific notification payloads to Appleโ€™s service.
@paul I thought you were the one breaking things for a living, not us!

@paul how do the push notifs work?

Does it setup a watch or something on the server for everything Iโ€™ve opted in?

push API methods - Mastodon documentation

Subscribe to and receive push notifications when a server-side notification is received, via the Web Push API

@b3ll @paul Mastodon actually has a WebPush event you can subscribe to. All you have to do is build a push service to listen to Mastodons event and then push them upstream to the APNS, at least from my understanding of their API.
@anthony @paul @khaost ah! Thatโ€™s neat, thanks
@paul Testcomment ๐Ÿคช
@paul wheeeee! LETS BURN THOSE CYCLES
@paul Yay! Notifications! Just one question: Will Admin notifications follow (new sign ups, reports)?
@paul Oh and maybe an option to show the corresponding account for the notification. That would be great.
@paul itssss working ๐Ÿš€
@paul
Is this a load-bearing toot?
@paul Replying to see if I break your server! ๐Ÿ˜‚

@paul I'm testing this instance here: @elan

Loaded it up with a large list of follows and a lot of BirdSiteLive users to push some limits.

@paul got an ssl error in Toot! the first time.
@paul manual stress testing FTW. Or am I actually just an unpaid mechanical turk ๐Ÿค”
@wklj not sure but for sure unpaid!
@paul weird: โ€œUndo Boostโ€ does not seem to work (build 151)
@_jonasf_ used it several times today while testing something and it seems fine.
@paul it might be related to the fact the post has been boosted by one of my followings first (also screen recording upload failed in Ivory so I had to use Mastodon app to send this post)
@paul @chartier Iโ€™m putting beta tester on my resume.
@paul โญ๏ธ๐Ÿš€
@paul have we broken it yet?
