The big news is not that a committee of Congress has made a criminal referral urging that the DOJ prosecute a former president. The big news is that the committee has compiled overwhelming evidence that the former president has committed serious crimes. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/the-real-news-about-the-january-6?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=365422&post_id=91755428&isFreemail=true&utm_medium=email
The real news about the January 6 committee's criminal referral of Trump

They have an overwhelming case

Robert Reich
@rbreich Look at the things got a substantial progress
@rbreich robert I love you but you gotta go to bed it's 2:37 am man
@rbreich An interesting summary Robert, watched with horror here across the pond. I didn’t know the secret service were privy to Congressional targets 10 days prior.
@rbreich Just like the Access Hollywood tapes, the Russia investigation, the two impeachments, and the Mar-a-Lago documents all sunk Trump? We've been here too many times before.
@thesgarlick @rbreich Any time I see a pundit, news outlet, or "expert" publish or post something to the effect of "such-in-such happened, #trump is fucked now," I roll my eyes mentally (and probably physically).
@rbreich I’m concerned about who will be on the Judiciary Committee soon
@rbreich I just wish that A.G. Garland had been more "prosecutorial" and less "judicial", recognizing that as prosecutor, he is supposed to be adversarial, that by holding on to his non-partisanship so long is, in itself, demonstrating bias. I hope Jack Smith delivers decisive justice!
@RAndrewski @rbreich I heard he called the poll rigged as is planning on running another poll just for his $8 fans.
@jfslicer @rbreich Reminds me of the chess player who throws over the board, when he is check-mated, rather than congratulate his opponent.
@rbreich It's gonna be a best seller, then sit on the shelf for historians to pour over. Well done, J6C!
@rbreich Indeed! I also think the Committee’s work has revealed glaring holes in U.S. law. Those holes need to be plugged and the 118th Congress must step up and do that. The U.S. can never be placed in this position again. The test of a lasting democracy is if those who represent the people actually represent the people and not their own self-interests.
@rbreich it's a beautiful piece of work, but will the DOJ do anything with it?
@rbreich That overwhelming evidence of criminal activities must result in charges filed against Trump and his accomplices. The rule of law must be upheld for U.S. democracy to remain strong.
@rbreich It seems a righteous day but also a sad one that we ever got to this moment.
@rbreich One of the historians on Morning Joe (MSNBC) today demonstrated why Nixon should have been charged. See the David Frost/Nixon interview. Nixon copped to nothing. He said he had done nothing that FDR and JFK had not done.
@rbreich The 1/6 committee has spent almost 2 years dealing with the obvious. Insurrection, sedition, fascism. In my opinion the committee has been trying to figure out the politically correct way to avoid controversy. Note they might make referrals by the end of the year. Just as the GOP takes over. I wonder what the GOP led committee will do.
@rbreich Yet too many Republicans still support him. I realize that we are innocent until proven guilty, but the riots and Trumps (lack of) response were on public view. We did not need a committee inquiry to know what happened.

@rbreich I'm willing to make a small bet of $1B that nothing comes of this.

I'm thinking of purchasing and fixing the DoJ next.
