Mastodon's search isn't great. If someone you know joins, give them a boost. It's helped me find many of the developers and apps we cover on @macstories, but I'm sure I’ve still got many folks to track down.
Thanks for the recommendation of various tools to find Twitter follows here. I used one myself. I like a good automation tool as much as anyone and they help, but aren’t a replacement for help from a friend or a personal recommendation of who to follow.
@johnvoorhees let’s just restart follow Fridays of the Twitter early days 🥹
@johnvoorhees @macstories we’re like the people in wall-e, we need to relearn how to be social now that the algorithms are gone
@johnvoorhees @macstories Trying my best to reconnect with my friends and contacts in the games and tech media space with this strategy!
@johnvoorhees @macstories @viticci I’m having lotsa trouble finding my Twitter people and rebuilding my network.
@steven_aquino This site really helped me. https://www.movetodon.org
Movetodon: Finds your Twitter Friends on Mastodon

@ChrisLawley @steven_aquino seconded! Huge help and couldn’t be easier.
@steven_aquino try out https://www.movetodon.org/ I worked great as a start for me then scrolled though the boost(repost) section to expand
Movetodon: Finds your Twitter Friends on Mastodon

@johnvoorhees @macstories I can highly recommend Movetodon to find folks as well!
@johnvoorhees @macstories One thing that makes it hard is following others on different servers. I would normally go to a profile that I trust, see who they are following, and choose to follow many of the same people. But that can't easily be done.

@johnvoorhees @macstories We might want to establish some community hashtags, the lack of search is definitely going to be a problem for my Shortcuts newsletter.

Things like #TestFlight and #AppUpdate might be good

@matthewcassinelli @johnvoorhees @macstories seems like we’ll have to reimplement some sort of #followfriday again 🤷‍♂️
@johnvoorhees @macstories apparently it’s possible to enable full-text search using elasticsearch. The instance I’m on did it. And I heard you guys happen to manage your own instance :)
@brandonhorst Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on. We've got elasticsearch enabled too. Either it's an issue with connection to struggling servers or something we need to troubleshoot on our end.
