NOTE: This law will not be enforced until next year, so Musk has some time before facing these fines

“The DMA will be applicable as of beginning of May 2023.”

Thierry Breton on Twitter

“Platforms can't keep flip-flopping on policies. The #DSA sets clear rules — now we have a clear implementation #date too. I've instructed 🇪🇺 Commission teams to enforce DSA no later than: 1 September 2023 Strongly encouraging platforms to fully comply even sooner. #BeReady”

Twitter
@juddlegum I'm sure the #MuskRat will have all kinds of objections. Make sure this is enforced. And that it extend to all those far-right platforms like Truth Social (another thing to make Trump sweat)...
@juddlegum If Twitter is such a trash heap, please stop trying to direct people there with links.
@joegarden @juddlegum I don't click Twitter links. Screenshots would be helpful.
@juddlegum I really wish everyone would just give the bird the heave ho and use a different site, (Mastodon is a great choice). Leave Musk. Stop trying to resuscitate what twit was months ago. It’s not going to happen. Walk away from that abusive relationship.
@juddlegum by that time there’ll be no revenue. Elon outsmarts the EU in 96D chess
@juddlegum I don't think Twitter has been designated as a "gatekeeper" under the act yet, either, so it might not apply to them at all.

@juddlegum Subscribe! Judd's newsletter is very informative and he is great at getting the details.
@juddlegum Nice pitch, but you’re no Ken Klippenstein. Gotta get on that grindset mindset!

@juddlegum

The big question: will he be? Or will, yet again, the rich folks get to live by different rules than the rest of us?

@KarynDoc @juddlegum EU internet regulation is no joke. Meta was recently fined €265m for failing to prevent data scraping. they take enforcement of tech regulations very seriously over there.

€265 Million GDPR Fine for Meta Over Data Scraping Conducted Prior to 2020

The GDPR fine was sparked by a round of media reports in early 2021 documenting how the personal data of over 530 million Facebook users was left open to data scraping for an extended period thanks to faults in certain tools.

@racoonlatrine @juddlegum

I sincerely hope so. Just feeling a bit burned thus far.

@juddlegum what’s 20% of nothing
@joshuatopolsky
@juddlegum
Profits will be nothing but revenue will exist. Just way lower than last year.
@juddlegum Elon Musk's presence and actions alone have already cost Twitter WAY more than 20% of their annual revenue...
@juddlegum not yet though, since DMA doesn’t kick in until May 2023 as per your link.
@juddlegum There's good reason for this - a lot of businesses use those other platforms and link to them on twitter as part of their business and advertising model. As well as commerce among freelance workers like artists and programmers.
@juddlegum joke’s on the EU — there won’t be any revenue by 2023.
@juddlegum I like your feed but I’m sick and tired of reading about the other platform. We’re bird refugees here…. Would appreciate any good scoops you have in other news. I can’t believe how much oxygen that wealthy guy is getting — now even on this social network too?
@juddlegum Nearly all non-QAnon-y social media platforms allow some form of cross-posting.
@juddlegum Wow I have my mastodon links in both twitter account profiles! I wonder if I'll be banned. Yikes.

@juddlegum You know... If I were, well, anyone... I wouldn't be messing with the French today.

#JohnMastodon would know better.

@DirtyDucko @juddlegum We know #Elno #Muskolini doesn't care about laws or regulations.
@juddlegum too bad the regulators are in hibernation
@juddlegum Can't take 20% of revenue if galaxy brain powered Twitter 2.0 has no revenue.
@juddlegum @Ginger_hax I don’t think Elon needs any help to burn the bird site. He’s doing a great job on it’s own so far
@juddlegum only, 20% of their CURRENT annual revenue is... not a lot
@juddlegum
At this rate, Twitter's revenue will be in the negative.
@juddlegum Rules are effective from May 2023. Gonna be an interesting six months!
@juddlegum Luckly for Twitter, their annual revenue next year is going to be about $20.
@juddlegum No penalties will be levied because the EU is toothless, and Elon Musk is a billionaire who is above the law.
@juddlegum What do they do when 20% of annual revenue is a huge negative number?
@juddlegum So, if they fine him 20% of a negative number....
@juddlegum It appears that one ALSO cannot copy a link from here to post over there.
@juddlegum That would be worrisome - if they actually had any revenue. 😆
@juddlegum this is gonna be the thing that finally makes Paul Graham a fan of the EU regulatory regime.
@juddlegum
It just keeps getting more and more entertaining.
@juddlegum Elon Musk probably never does his research before behaving like a child.
@juddlegum that’s assuming Twitter lasts a year with him at the helm. It seems like he’ll sink it as soon as he can.
@juddlegum Could be difficult to get him for gatekeeping, as twitter is too small of a company to fall under this regulation.
But I'm sure there'll be plenty of other charges to make him pay up anyway
@juddlegum Is it bringing in any revenue at this point? I’m sure Emo knows all the accounting tricks to make it look like it’s not.
@juddlegum So, about $1000 by the time they get to issuing a fine?
@juddlegum
Really dropped the "free speech same as under the 1st amendment" rather quickly
@juddlegum But annual revenue this year is veeeeery low 😜
