*Sheepish request* I'm new to Mastodon, but a lot of my former Twitter followers don't know I'm here yet. Someone suggested I could simply ask you fine people to boost me. Would you be so kind? (I promise to post a photo of my dog to say thanks). #WelcomeToMastodon
@brianklaas Welcome! 👋 Happy to boost your post

@brianklaas you can recommend this to your tweeps on Twitter to find you and the rest of their follows here. Last I did it wasn’t banned on Twitter

Movetodon: Finds your Twitter Friends on Mastodon

@brianklaas
OK!

But also did you try using movetodon.org/?

@brianklaas Who can resist a dog photo?!
A guide to getting started with Twitter alternative Mastodon

How to get started on social-media site Mastodon, whether you're leaving Twitter or just looking for people who have.

The Washington Post
@faustosterling The problem is I had 265,000 followers on Twitter, so I can't follow them all!
@brianklaas aahh. you are in a different class (Klaas?) then me. but I had 9000 followers and only a few 100 of them had set up accounts here, so that tactic scooped up some and you can always unfollow once they have found you. Also, keep reminding people on twitter where you are. I use a cross posting utility which works sometimes, but I think twitter is interfering with it at times. It takes a while. Follow hashtags here and boost a lot. People notice that. But also a different set of people!
@brianklaas @faustosterling post good content, have great conversations, folks will follow you. If they did on Twitter, they’ll do it here. Patience.
It probably feels weird to be part of the masses again but welcome back to the real world.
@brianklaas
Think not that 265,000 followers on Twitter is a problem or a goal to be replicated.
Think that Mastodon is new and an opportunity to engage. If you toot engaging content, then you surely will get boosts, mentions and follows.
Welcome!
@brianklaas hello and #welcome. #dog & #cat photos are appreciated 💖
Movetodon: Finds your Twitter Friends on Mastodon

@brianklaas 😂I'm the very same Brian. Sine died from twitter
@brianklaas Welcome! Just make sure to say hello back to folks; Mastodon is much more conversation and engagement vs the one way post and move on of the birdsite. You'll get a lot more out of it!
@brianklaas In my opinion the best initial way to try to let people know you're here (both old follows and new-to-you ones) is to post an introduction with lots of hashtags of what you like to post about (and also put a hashtag on the word "introduction") and then pin the post to your profile. People will boost it at the time you write it and then some people who find it pinned later will also boost it.
@brianklaas I've boosted, but if you don't already know, Debirdify (https://pruvisto.org/debirdify/) lets you check for Twitter followers who are on Mastodon, not just people who you followed, which might be useful. (I'm not sure whether Fedifinder and Movetodon also do that.)
Debirdify

This is a web app that helps you find out which of the people you follow on Twitter are on Mastodon/in the Fediverse already and follow all of them easily.

@brianklaas Oh, hey, Brian! Glad to see you. I landed here a month ago and made a project of finding my Twitter peeps who were here. So my first bunch of Following people are some you might recognize. And the recent influx, after #BloodyThursday, led me to follow more twitter refugees you’ll recognize. Welcome to sanity!
@brianklaas
I used this and it worked well: https://fedifinder.glitch.me
Fedifinder

Fediverse accounts of your X/Twitter followings

@brianklaas this is an Excellent way to dip into the pool.

Refreshing to not see a ranting barrage of twisted twitter tales as a lead in. 👍👍👍

@brianklaas

Done and welcome! Also followed you here.

@brianklaas Only because of Zorro!
😍🐶
@brianklaas I imagine you've tried services like movetodon.org and debirdify.pruvisto.org ? But, if not, could be helpful recouping some of your old followers! Good luck and welcome!
@brianklaas Glad you are exploring alternatives to twitter now that it's being run by a far right creep. I did not follow you there, but am looking forward to reading your posts here. #TwitterMigration

@brianklaas boosted. Now, where's the dog? 😉
@BongoMcnulty I need to let the suspense build for a bit

@brianklaas weeeeellll, okay, but I'm only here for the pups ;)

Welcome, BTW!

@brianklaas as the most popular user on this platform I’m happy to help
@brianklaas Welcome! Haven’t been here long, but I’m a calmer person now. Whew.
@brianklaas I dunno... ;) Also, don't forget to make an #introduction post and pin it to your profile. All the best!

@brianklaas
Welcome!

Be sure to add your Mastodon account address to your Bird profile. Some folks are finding they're unable to tweet it anymore, they get their accounts suspended. (I got flagged for it, myself, after successfully tweeting it several times.) But it's allowed in profiles.

Don't delete your account. Leave it there as a place setting, so no one else can use your handle in the future.

On Fridays, "toot" out the hashtags #FollowFriday and #FollowBackFriday . That helps a lot.

@brianklaas following is where it's at. That way you'll get more server coverage
@brianklaas
Boosted and followed... and on Twitter.
@brianklaas Happy to give you a boost.
@brianklaas Check out some hashtags in your areas of interest and see who you can find. Then put up an introduction with your hashtags and see who finds you.
@brianklaas here's a picture of my dog to help you.

@brianklaas I'll boost you, if you'll tell me your thoughts on this quote by Frank Herbert:

"It isn't that power corrupts, but that power attracts the corruptible."

@brianklaas Welcome! Glad to see you here. Your book Corruptible was one of the best nonfiction books I read last year.
@brianklaas Done. It's nice to meet you. 👋
@brianklaas I expect a dog picture. Lol
@brianklaas Dog photos are as welcome as lemur pics ... this neighborhood likes dogs and cats (and now lemurs...). There are a ton of dog hashtags, too, of course ... once you start looking, you'll find there's quite a bit of fun to be had here in addition to serious conversation.
@brianklaas also adding hashtags #newhere and #introduction for those that follow them
