Battersea Power Station in 1936 by Bill Brandt from his famous series of night photographs of London. Inspired by Brassaï's night photos of Paris, this is a masterpiece.
@marcdavenant The Art Gallery of Ontario had a show some years ago starring Francis Bacon and Henry Moore, but also featuring a selection of his wartime photos of the Underground and the wreckage of London. Powerfully impressive.
@marcdavenant My favorite picture of Battersea Power Station is this one from 1976:

Did you know that the album cover is the result of an actual photo shoot with a 12 m long, helium-filled pig?

Animals (Pink Floyd album) - Wikipedia

@telakin @marcdavenant Yes and no. Pink Floyd actually did try to get a photo-shoot of the pig floating in front of Battersea Power Station. But the pig broke free and floated away before the photographer could get a good pic. This image is a completely faked cut and paste of the pig onto one of the photographer's other photos of Battersea. https://ultimateclassicrock.com/pink-floyd-inflatable-pig-breaks-free/
When Pink Floyd's Giant Inflatable Pig Broke Free

Pink Floyd's inflatable pig came unmoored, causing some serious problems on Dec. 3, 1976.

@badtux @marcdavenant That's why I said it's a result of the photo shoot, even though it's a cut and paste of the photos taken... ;)
@badtux @marcdavenant yep, you're not the only one who went there. 🏭 🐖

@marcdavenant What an amazing image.

Could you please consider adding image descriptions? I have several visually impaired people following me and so I don’t boost photographs that don’t have them. Thanks.

@bodhipaksa I’ll give it a try
@marcdavenant Thank you. It can be a very satisfying thing to do. I like to imagine I'm describing the photo to a good friend over the phone. It changes it from a chore to an act of love.
@marcdavenant There's a nice shot of Battersea by night in Basil Dearden's Victim (1961).
@marcdavenant love this. I lived in #battersea #london for 30 years opposite the park. I now live in #switzerland and #france so this prompts nostalgia. Thanks.
@marcdavenant looks like a scene from Metropolis 😍
@marcdavenant @popularposts it reminds me of the start of Bioshock.
@marcdavenant
david bowie's «heroes» is my soundtrack when I see this photograph
@marcdavenant This is an amazing photo and I haven’t seen this artist’s work before so thanks for the post. I know this is obvious but I can’t see these towers without thinking of Pink Floyd’s Animals album cover.
@marcdavenant Looks like a gas holder skeleton in the foreground. Interesting structures.
@marcdavenant
Did Brandt shoot on large format view cameras or smaller ?
@mattshortridge he used a mix of medium format and large format cameras

When tired tourist you is on the early bus from London to Dover on a drizzly dreary morning and you look out the window scarcely in time to realize what you are passing and to grab your camera.
