Some tips for new members:

-Third party Mastodon apps are better than official apps. On Android try Tusky or Fedilab. On iPhone/iPad try Toot!

@feditips but I like the look of the official app

@feditips

Unfortunate but true. It's got kind of a busier/rougher look but I love how feature rich Fedilab is, frequent updates too.

@feditips I can vouch for Tusky. #TeamAndroid
@dbsalk @feditips federated timeline is n/a, feels claustrophobic
@meowlygrowly @feditips Do you have a preferred app that you would recommend instead?
@dbsalk @feditips not yet, I'm so far fine on the official app. I downloaded tusky because I was getting upload errors but they happened there too.
@feditips Or just use the webapp! Best choice imho (on Android w/o Google).
@feditips tooot on Android is nice
@feditips
I think Megalodon is another good app forma Mastodon in Android
@feditips thanks for thr helpful tips! Is thr app toot or tooot? The former is $5.49 the latter is free.
@feditips Tooot is very good. Please note it has 3 O's. tooot

@feditips On iOS and macOS, #Mastoot does very nicely

BTW, I see that mastodon URLs in Twitter profiles put up a warning, but you know what doesn’t? https://fedi.tips/ ! I put that along with my unlinked masto ID

@feditips Another vote for Tusky on Android here.
@feditips Tusky may be better than Mastodon app but it desperately needs an image overhaul.

@feditips Tusky is better than the official app: in what way? I tried it, couldn't discover what was supposed to be better. I disliked the way it cuts off parts of images.

You can't tell people this or that app is better without motivation.

I don't use any apps for mastodon anymore. I prefer the web interface. It offers functionality that is missing in the apps.

@feditips Query: Can users on Counter Social and a Mastodon instance view each others' posts?

@feditips
METATEXT is definitely my favorite Mastodon app for iPhone!

I made a couple custom app icons for it, for anyone who’s interested ^-^

@feditips The Mammoth app on iOS via TestFlight has been a god send!
@feditips Going back and forth between Tusky and the official Mastodon for Android apps on my tablet.
@feditips Tried the official app, Tusky, Toot. Finally settled on Megalodon. It is a fork of the official app. Worth a try.
@feditips that first point needs to get addressed. That’s embarrassing.
@feditips if the website is telling me my password doesn’t work and is not letting me use my confirmed email address to change it, is that just a function of how overextended everything is right now and I should wait it out? or am I screwed? (I have access to my account via the official app, which is indeed painful to use, but I can’t sign in anywhere else.)
@feditips getting used to Subway Toot. Quite a handy app
@feditips I prefer to access Mastodon (and others) via website on a laptop. Any special tips for browsers?
@feditips #mammoth on iOS is my favorite. A lot like TweetDeck.
@feditips does this mean that advertisers never will come here?
@feditips Thanks for the info. I used to use Andstatus on Android. Reinstalled it and it happily handles both the bird network and Mastodon. Kind of nice having one app to deal with the firehose, yes?
@feditips Thank you for running this instance! I was wondering; is there a way to embed selected Flickr photos here, rather than burden your server with uploads? (And is there a way to include alt text if so?) Let me know and thank you again.
