@chuckwendig I tweeted there once, this past week, with a link to my Masto account. I've heard rumors since then that any links to my instance get auto-banned (on the grounds that people actually like it here), so who knows, I might not be able to log back in if I tried.

I miss Twitter c. 2007 or so. But it's BEEN a garbage fire for some time now, this is just the Visigoths finally getting around to sacking the place.

@chuckwendig I don't think I've really mourned Twitter's impending doom until last night. Seeing the tantrum happen in real time was, whoof. Elon's going to drive it into the ground because he's a massive narcissist that can't hear "no" without breaking shit.

I dunno, man. Maybe I shouldn't be as sad as I am about it, but here we are. Maybe part of this is because I don't have a new digital home yet. Nothing feels right.

@audleyzdarke I am super sad about it. I mean, I also have tons and tons of complicated feelings, because... it's also been the nexus of a lot of really awful stuff for the world but also me personally? And yet, so many of the greatest people I know, I met there. I met you there! It's been essential to me as a person, weirdly.

Yeah, it's deffo a complicated feeling. The amount of friends I've made and support I've received is overwhelming to think about.

But otoh, they never really did get rid of the nazis.

It may be all moot for me, anyway, because I've been suspended and the messages I've received from Twitter don't even guarantee that I'll get my account back, so. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm right there with you, Chuck.
Lots of important things in my life have been facilitated by Twitter, but since its Muskification, I have found that the part I like best about Twitter is mocking its owner. Not a healthy relationship. So I kept mocking him until I got suspended. Now I'm free.

I highly recommend getting yourself suspended from Twitter.
It's very liberating.
Now when I think about going over there to see how bad it's getting, I just think, "Oh yeah - I can't!"
(Yes, I know that technically, I could just use an incognito tab or log out to see what's going on over there, but... meh.)

I'm not sure how they decide to make it permanent. They did with mine. I appealed it, but in the request, I just said I was curious as to why I was suspended, and that I am otherwise happy to sit by and watch his $44B go up in flames.

Speaking of old BBS systems, The Well still exists, well.com believe it or not. I’ve been hanging out there for nearly 30 years now.

We watched this whole internet thing get built from scratch. When I first got onto NSFNet as it was just turning into the corporatized internet we know today, you just got dumped at Unix prompt. There literally was no graphical web at the time, just plain old ASCii. 1/2
