If Republicans are so "pro-life," why do they refuse to protect children from being gunned down at school?
@rbreich I have that same question.
@rbreich The GOP is pro guns anti women. If women birthed watermelons instead of humans and it kept them out of the job market the GOP would be pro watermelon.
@rbreich I believe they're actually pro- cannon fodder and pro- limitless exploitable labor, but those things sound pretty bad so

@rbreich

Because they haven't stopped to consider it might happen to somebody that they care about.

@rbreich excellent question, include people gunned down in churches, grocery stores, hospitals, events and clubs. Horrific.
@rbreich because the gun manufacturers need profits to pay the banksters & armies don't need as much human-carried firepower in the drone age
@rbreich Guns and god are the domain of the average.

@rbreich Same reason they want to force 12 year olds to carry their rapist's baby without funding prenatal or post-natal care for either adolescent mom or baby.

"the unborn" is a prop, not an actual human being, to them. And CERTAINLY they don't consider the mother-to-be a person worth care and respect.

They're lying. Haven't people figured that out yet?
@rbreich
@rbreich also: maternity and paternity leave, childcare, healthcare during pregnancy, etc. There is a lot to an actual “pro life” agenda. But I guess to them the Spartans had it figured out back then :/
@rbreich it's just a euphemism for pro-state forced pregnancy
@rbreich They're "pro-freedom" yet ban books, silence teachers, bully trans kids and parents, bully drag performers, outlaw abortion, pass anti-boycott laws, outlaw unions, and on and on.
@rbreich Because they are in the pockets of the NRA ?
@rbreich I know it was a rhetorical question, but there is an answer: the GOP needs a climate of fear so that their fascist agenda can seem more appealing.
@rbreich we know. but until we treat them for what they are we are stuck.
@rbreich pro-BIRTH, not pro-life. It's confusion created by branding...kind of like "Defund the Police" didn't really capture what people wanted.
@rbreich because the people who wrote the constitution and amendments were humans who assumed you didn’t need to spell out the right to life. On the other hand the modern GOP are literal insurrectionist monsters who value power and money, don’t acknowledge any rights not explicitly granted by the founding documents because they’re broken and lacking in basic human kindness and compassion.
@rbreich
Pro life isn't about life it's about controlling women.
@rbreich without Marco Rubio all those kids would be alive Florida voted to kill kids over and over
@rbreich they only want what’s good for them. Otherwise, try to control what everyone else can do.
@rbreich . Sickening comparison. I must add that most of these assaults including on your house speaker spouse, all schools shooters and most if not all serial killers are victims themselves of our healthcare systems refusal to identify or treat serious mental illness aka psychosis, the left has a poorer record that the political right in that manner, as public treatment of the mentally is considered a restriction on the poor. Mental health is good for business and would end these atrocities
@Hdb60 @rbreich
From Wikipedia "The Mental Health Systems Act of 1980 (MHSA) was United States legislation signed by President Jimmy Carter which provided grants to community mental health centers. In 1981 President Ronald Reagan, who had made major efforts during his Governorship to reduce funding and enlistment for California mental institutions, pushed a political effort through the U.S. Congress to repeal most of MHSA."
Just fact checking @Hdb60
@Hdb60 @rbreich your claim on the right having a better history than the left on mental healthcare is completely wrong. Reagan ended federal funding for it. Dems enacted Obamacare and pay 90% of cost to states but gop fight it constantly. Gop actually fight to make it easier for mentally ill, terrorists, and violent criminals to have easier access to more lethal guns. Other countries have mentally ill people too but don’t have mass shooters bc of gun laws
@twitterreject @rbreich . Just some rabble babble for you thanks, you can’t have both guns and mental illness, by choosing to remain armed as the us does, it must now adapt with much higher mental illness detection and mitigation tools, aka pharma. From inception care for all kids. Costs then drop dramatically in social services, energy health, positive outlook improves, the need to smother yourself in comfort declines. You give more need less comfy lifestyles,
@Hdb60 @rbreich that’s the Republican policies though. They want everyone to have easy access to guns, even the mentally ill. They blame mental illness for shootings but they want to cut all funding for treatment of mental illness too. That’s what we deal with
@twitterreject @rbreich . Here’s a comment. The republicans policies have been a mixture of lurches, backward and forward since the beginning, I don’t see political parties as much as I see there are always special interest groups vying for control, Lincoln to trump. Address on gun lobby at a time, not the blob called republicans. Policy, the only policy most have is not missing a meal. Perhaps..
@Hdb60 @rbreich before getting into any policies, you have to recognize that both parties changed every belief they had around 1970 when the southern conservative dems switched to voting gop. This caused the more liberal republicans to switch to Democratic Party and is what we have today. It’s easier to historically describe voters as liberal & conservative since that never changed. Conservatives favored gun control until late 80’s/early 90’s when NRA changed it’s view.
@twitterreject @rbreich . the nra .. what a disaster. History of the nra is an ugly thing, un-American if you ask me, dangerous and radical. no social policy, border security, mental health position, not even a guide for managing weapons. Not advocating guns for law and order instead. Guns for security for paranoids, guns for single mothers, guns for entertainment , gun for that feeling or power, ...Just ugly raw support for arming everyone . Sometimes I think the nra is run by Putin flunkies
@Hdb60 @rbreich conservatives seem to only favor a “small government” bc they are consistently at odds with what the rest of the country wants. When they are in power, “states rights” is gone and they want their policies nationalized. Huge lie to justify slavery.
I.e. while most states were legalizing pot, when Jeff Sessions became AG, he started raiding all “state legal” pot operations. Now conservatives are pushing for a national abortion ban too.
@Hdb60 @rbreich go back to twitter. You’re spouting complete bullshit. I don’t have the energy to explain every point but every single claim you made is wrong. Now go away. This is for people who actually have more than 1/2 of a functioning brain
@twitterreject @rbreich here’s some more for you, a good psychiatrist can detect schizophrenia by nothing more than eye contact by the infants in year one of life, the problem is no parents want to be told by any physicians that if there baby doesn’t take anti psychotic drugs from day one the condition will flair up leading to anti social failed wasted individuals. Twitter edited my stuff so beat me with a stick
@Hdb60 @rbreich good however most killers are not schizophrenic. Most people with mental illnesses don’t murder or shoot people. That’s a bullshit myth to blame everything but guns
@twitterreject @rbreich correct , just that 95 percent of organic mental illness is left untreated because it is not a danger to self or others, hence the opportunity and problem. Arming the us population forces your leaders to improve healthcare for the 95, to protect us from the 5 percent. Or control guns and leave the mentally ill to suffer untreated, without easy access to guns, there is not motivation for anyone to solve. The mental health crisis, not celebrity sadness, psychosis.
@rbreich once said children have exited the birth canal, the GOP couldn't care less. That's pro-birth, not pro-life.
@rbreich There's big money in guns and many Americans feel more passionately about owning guns than almost anything else in their lives. It's sad but true.
@rbreich
Because it affects their wallets. No other reason what so ever.
@rbreich Because once they’re born, all bets are off.
@rbreich they don't give a shit, they only care about the politicization of it.
@rbreich
Excellent question with only Uvalde for an answer.
@rbreich They’re more pro-fetus. After they’re born, they’re on their own.

@rbreich If Republicans are so "patriotic," why do they hate America so much?
If Republicans are predominantly "Christian," why why do they treat people so horribly?
If Republicans are...

Because they aren't.
They aren't, they aren't, they aren't.

@rbreich I wonder too about their stance against social programs that keep families together and thriving, or their sentiments towards foster/adoptive kids, especially racial minorities. There's this concern about domestic supply of children when thousands of kids are aging out of the system.
@aejeffers @rbreich they consistently vote against every govt policy that increases what they claim to support. Florida gop senators voted against federal funding to help their stateafter a hurricane this year.
They all took PPP loans without having to pay them back but fight to stop any student loan forgiveness for their voters. They actively fight every single policy that helps our country bc foreign billionaires like Murdoch tell them to
@rbreich because they are fake Christian’s and prolifer ! They are a bunch of self righteousness and selfish group.
@rbreich Because protecting children in school does not involve controlling women which is the real ReQublican goal.
@rbreich Robert, the pro life mantra was a response to brown v board of education. Jerry Falwell and the so called "moral majority" crafted it to elect Reagan.
@rbreich The only thing I can think of, seriously, follow money or power, all their motivations are rooted in power and greed - at any cost
@rbreich They're not pro-life. They're anti-v ulva.
@rbreich They are pro-making babies.

@rbreich

Good point. Kids are future of generations!

@rbreich i think they want to arm school staff, that is a form of protection of children. Being that there are > 500,000 abortions every year, and less than < 5000 deaths from gun related incidents in children, interesting that you are making a comparison between the two.
@rbreich for the same reasons they can care less that over a million Americans died from Covid.

They are not really pro-life!!
@rbreich well they do.. only their solution is armed teachers, armed guards - everything but the root cause, which could simply escalate the problem. Until one is only safe in a fortress, never a school
