Twitter is stiffing vendors & employees, while making private employee, customer, user data available to extremists to create right-wing disinformation https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/13/technology/elon-musk-twitter-shakeup.html Do business with Twitter, in any capacity, with an understanding of the high risk. Also, Musk is basically morphing into Trump.
Musk Shakes Up Twitter’s Legal Team as He Looks to Cut More Costs

Twitter has stopped paying rent on offices and is considering not paying severance packages to former employees, among other measures.

The New York Times
When a normal person does not pay their bills they suffer serious consequences, they may: lose their home, be unable to get medical care, go hungry. But, when a rich, white, right-wing dude decides to not pay his bills it is an amazing business strategy to negotiate with his employees, vendors, etc. It is insane that we tolerate so much white collar theft, while vilifying legitimate struggles.
@DavMicRot it absolutely makes no sense at all

#Quotes

"People who go broke in a big way never miss any meals. It is the poor jerk who is shy a half slug who must tighten his belt."
--Robert Heinlein

@mmiasma @DavMicRot That's a good quote and quite true.
@DavMicRot
America never lived under the rule of law. Having the same laws apply to everyone is basic to the definition of the rule of law.
@DavMicRot I will never forget the tagline that appeared on the movie poster for ROSALIE GOES SHOPPING: "When you're $500,000 in debt, it's your problem. When you're $500,000,000 in debt, it's the bank's."

@DavMicRot Okay, I guess I didn't quite remember the poster! The actual tagline is: "When you're $100,000 in debt, it's your problem. When you're $1,000,000 in debt . . . it's the bank's."

(Inflation!)

@DavMicRot it’s a very white problem for sure, but I don’t think it’s rooted in race (but race has a massive impact) but more of a capitalism problem. the issue with capitalism is that the system worships the richest people because they exemplify what it means to “win this game”, regardless of whether they have any merit, morals, or intelligence. so we literally worship wealth because it’s the only measure of winning in this hellscape.
@DavMicRot debts: “If you owe your bank manager a thousand pounds, you are at his mercy. If you owe him a million pounds, he is at your mercy.”

@DavMicRot

The laws don’t apply to the oligarchs. We do a great job punishing poor people for breaking the law, an ok job with punishing middle-class people who break the law, and a bad job at punishing rich people who break it. We don’t even try to punish oligarchs when they break the law.

@charvaka @DavMicRot More than laws, it’s their legal teams that makes the difference.
Ogliarchs, without their legal teams, are nothing.

@kedar @DavMicRot

Yeah, in practice that means that oligarchs can steal from their landlords and employees and get away with it. Sure, that’s technically illegal, but who’s going to enforce that? Nobody, thanks to the army of lawyers the oligarch can buy.

@DavMicRot Are you talking Elon or tRump?

@DavMicRot @alaric I can’t fathom being at that level of wealth and thinking 🤔 « yeah, I’m just not going to pay for the private jet I used, the rent, the severance, etc » so much theft of services, theft of property and theft of wages

I would say the lack of ethics is astounding, but it actually isn’t surprising

@CarpeDiemT3ch @DavMicRot @alaric reminds me of the story and tv show of Inventing Anna
@Quokka @DavMicRot @alaric yeah that was quite the bit of social engineering - I don’t know how much wealth she actually had it was more appearance of wealth and really a lot of social engineering, but she definitely did quite a bit of theft with not paying for things
@DavMicRot I’ve heard the job of accountants in big firms being described as “not paying bills until the last possible minute”. Can have a huge impact on small suppliers.
@DavMicRot Truer words were never tooted.
@DavMicRot old joke which is sadly true. If you owe your bank $400k and can’t pay it back you are in a lot of trouble. If you owe them $40B and can’t pay it back THEY are in a lot of trouble.
@DavMicRot it is frustrating. I can't get away with a parking ticket...yet if I was rich I could get away with it. The burden is always on those of us trying to do the right thing. Those with wealth break all the rules and do it with impunity.
@DavMicRot
Remind me of the song lyrics, Ste a little they throw you in jail still a lot they make you king

@DavMicRot

Its also telling that they benefit from subsidies (Socialism by another name) at the top..

While denying the commoners any break.

@DavMicRot infuriating how they have a separate set of rules from the rest of us

@DavMicRot I don't think Akiva or his clients are interested in compromising.

Nor is the California WARN Act that EM was skirting by claiming to offer this severance pay

@DavMicRot I've been watching this guy, and Trump, and the crypto guy and it seems like very rich people treat money as imaginary. It's not something they take out of their wallet or bank account. It's their (for want of a better word) reputation. But for other people, money is real. When they get stiffed, it matters
@DavMicRot #BoycottElonMusk I won't ever buy a Tesla or ride in any craft the twit makes. And I left #twitter weeks ago. And the US government should not give him ANY grants or subsidies!
@DavMicRot A company who can't meet payroll is a company in dire trouble
@DavMicRot Did Elon Musk graduate from Trump University or something?
@DavMicRot wi be interesting to see what the people who own the building do. Surely he is not considered to be a squatter. Though by the look of him at chapelles show, he looks a lot like one…🙄
@DavMicRot We should deny the rich the benefits of their artificial wealth. We should deny them the rule of law. We should deny them all forms of power. We should treat them as un-contractable, and never do business with them or their companies again.
@DavMicRot White collar crime with impunity is the rot at the center of our society. IMHO.
