With all of the horrible things happening in the world, it’s nice to find the wins. Especially in the area of our environment. A group called Coral Guardian is restoring coral reefs, and it’s quite magnificent.

These photos represent 7 years of work on the Indonesia’s Hatamin Island. In this they have increased the fish population by 5x with 53k corals restored.

More wins like this, please.

@markwyner this is very good news.
@markwyner That is fantastic! Their efforts and care touch my heart and soul.
@markwyner Hope is absolutely essential if we want a better world. Thanks for sharing.
@markwyner
Magnificent! Thank you.
@markwyner Heard the Coral Guardian story on NPR. It is good to hear this news.
@markwyner this is so wonderful and full of hope thank you

@markwyner

It's just spectacular and so healing just to see this.

@markwyner This is inspiring. Great work.

@markwyner

well ... you know ... that is really bad propaganda 😉

@markwyner
As a newbie scuba diver, this is great news.
@markwyner Thank you for sharing this. What a difference!
@markwyner Good news! In Bonaire, there is a huge movement of coral nurseries. They're all over the place, some types that look like antlers, others that look like brain, and they pin them to big wire grids so they can grow and then plant them down when they're big enough. It's already making a difference there too. That and the lionfish hunters are helping nature get some strength back. Watched it for about 10 years and it makes a difference.

Coral Gardeners are doing some similar work in Tahiti/ French Polynesia
It would be great to see it go global

Coral Gardeners

Coral Gardeners started in 2017 on Mo’orea, the sister island of Tahiti in French Polynesia after a small group of young surfers, freedivers, and fishermen noticed the heartbreaking degradation of their home reef. WE EXIST TO REVOLUTIONIZE OCEAN CONSERVATION AND CREATE A GLOBAL MOVEMENT TO SAVE THE REEF.

@markwyner @adrianco would love to see get amplified by 1000x and be able to bring that work to the entire world! 🤘🏻
@markwyner Wow. This is awesome. Much more of this, please.
@markwyner - thank you for sharing! Awesome wins like this deserve to be celebrated for sure.
@markwyner I searched for an article where the transplantation process was explained in detail and I found one from India.
For everyone interested: https://india.mongabay.com/2021/08/coral-transplantation-helps-but-not-the-only-solution/
Coral transplantation helps, but not the only solution

India has five different regions where coral reefs are found. All carry out coral transplantation projects in varied capacities.

@markwyner
This is great. Watching the seemingly unstoppable destruction of the living world sometimes becomes very depressing and frustrating. Things like this bring a small glimmer of hope.
@markwyner
Thank you for showing this! I have been feeling so low about wildlife and the environment, it feels like it's all is in a downward spiral. Seeing this restoration project is really encouraging, if people put their mind to it miracles can happen. It's just a matter of overcoming the negative propaganda from the fossil fuel industry, they nearly always have a hand in destruction of one sort or another. Seeing this coral reef does give hope.
@markwyner
Great to see that such things are possible.
@markwyner Brilliant work. Hats off to all of them, and a big THANK YOU
@markwyner great work!
Also, the website has nice content and it's amazing to read what's being done in #spain and #indonesia to recover corals!
@markwyner
Beautiful and makes me hopeful!
@markwyner won’t the sun and pollution just kill and bleach the new coral I’m the same way?
@markwyner Thank you nice to see something beautiful and encouraging as I begin my morning.
@markwyner This gives me hope, thank you for sharing.
@markwyner Thank you for sharing a spot of great news. I will now do some research to see just how they are accomplishing such a remarkable improvement.
@markwyner yes, more good new stories. There are good things happening in the world.
@markwyner Now it buzzing with citizens
@markwyner This is very heartening! With so many images of dead and dying coral reefs it’s good to see recovery somewhere for a change. Plus it shows it can be done where we have the will.
@markwyner I'm a beginner diver and really enjoyed your post
@markwyner cannot love this more. any plans to work on Barrier Reef? or maybe they already are
@markwyner in just seven years.
We can help fix our mess.
